I'm interested in an MA program in Media Studies or maybe a Philosophy program based in Continental Philosophy

I've found relevant programs in Media Studies at The New School and MIT

the University of Virginia and Boston College have MAs in Philosophy that explore Continental thought

any suggestions?
what is tuition like at these places?

Never heard of The New School

You have to think though, sooner or later the freshness of that name is going to wear off

you're going to want to get a scholarship, or a job with the university

there's no way I could have afforded out of state tuition without those two things.

^^^ The New School has been around since like 1919 - used to be The New School for Social Research

^^ yeah... that shit says its $1020 per credit... does that mean credit hour? so... like $3060 per course?

^ yes... MAs and Ph.Ds

what do you do with a phd in philsophy?

i mean for a career, besides going back to teach

I wouldn't want a Ph.D in philosophy

but I would want to teach at the college level

you can also take a position at a university or think tank doing research and publishing articles

you should probably pick some safety schools - unless those schools have drastically lowered admission standards

oh yeah
I realize the incredibly competitive nature of the programs that I'm interested in

but I figured I'd give it a shot

I actually have a surprising amount of extra-curricular experience in the field of media in terms of booking and contracting, multimedia support, radio experience and in small scale production projects

since The New School is theory driven I hope that the work that I have done in critical theory (especially post-structuralism and feminist theory) is persuasive enough to get me in

just do what i did

go to the school that completely pays all your tuition and gives you a stipend for being a professor's bitch

the key is to get a good advisor

so... what I'm looking at are MA and Ph.D programs in the following fields (in order of my desire)

1. Media Studies
2. Women's Studies
3. Literature (with emphasis on Critical Theory)
4. (Continental) Philosophy or Critical Theory

^ I don't think any school is going to pay me to come there... my skill set isn't exactly going to earn wads of cash afterwards and I don't see their incentive, unless they want me to join their faculty

personally, i think UNC's philosophy department is stronger than the one at UVA--you might also look at notre dame, emory, and william & mary--although i don't know how much emphasis they put on continental studies

I was looking at a list of schools that focused on continental philosophy or emphasised it in some way

I definitely do NOT want to get involved in a philosophy program that doesn't cover continental philosophy and its subsequent branches

any good program is going to cover it to an extent, it would be hard not to, but a program that focuses exclusively on it is really rather obscure i think
