Oh, I'm sorry for be a realist.
11/8/2007 8:03:01 AM
you're not a realist. maybe youre either depressed and you take it out on days that make most people happy... or it could be that you're stuck on what you think you know about the past. either way...i cant think of a single time my family (or anyone i know) has celebrated it as anything other than a get together with everyone and be thankful day. anytime you feel like putting down your grudge against dead people you never knew, you can celebrate it in the "now" sense of the holiday like the rest of us. happy thanksgiving!

^^^ No no, I feel ya there. The family get-together and good food parts all wonderful. In fact, I plan on seeing family that I have not seen in quite some time. My point is with the idea that the Puritans were some kind of fun loving, peaceful settlers with nothing but kindness in their hearts. But we all know that Pilgrims are going to come up either as mythology or in discussion and most kids have no idea who they really were.[Edited on November 8, 2007 at 8:20 AM. im only familiar with the history side of thanksgiving that they present around the age where you make turkeys with your hand outline and i guess the word pilgrim itself says a lot about what they were, but its not like anyone is celebrating that part of it. so it just didnt seem so "real"its good to hear you enjoy it for what it is, though. ive decided/"learned" in the past year or 2 that you really should take every opportunity to see the people you care about. and not just cause it can be the last time you see them, but just because its fun. even if your family is batshit crazy. hahah i have uncles that literally called me a heathen pussy and all this crap and meant it when i said i voted for kerry. it makes it all the more fun to go visit them. actually, i bet they were a lot like the pilgrims

ps i found this image through a link in another thread in the lounge. early american art or something, in a thread about the museumhttp://historyproject.ucdavis.edu/khapp.php?SlideNum=328anyways, it looks like the indians werent exactly peaceful either. and yea i realize it could be 'propaganda' - or even if real, the white man probably seemed like an alien invader and it was insane and they just killed shiteither way. cool pics there
