I love it.I'm not so good at it cause I'm just starting out but it is awesome. Do you run?
11/6/2007 7:53:16 PM
I run everyday if I can... about 4-5 miles.
11/6/2007 7:54:36 PM
11/6/2007 7:54:43 PM
new to running you are. excited
11/6/2007 7:55:42 PM
I am very excited because I was always that fatty that could barely run at all. Running is awesome.I cant run 4-5 miles but I hope to get there, I've only been doing this two wees so far.
11/6/2007 8:09:36 PM
running is addictive to me, specially if you run outside and try to get to that next mile marker every time you run.
11/6/2007 8:49:27 PM
running is fun, but it kills my knees. Haven't been in a while though, but no place to really run around here.
11/6/2007 8:52:00 PM
all the hotties run
11/6/2007 9:08:51 PM
i miss running

I hope I don't get shin splints or whatever they're called. So far my joints are good.I didn't think I'd like running, I'm glad I gave it one more shot.
11/6/2007 9:23:44 PM
how far do you run?
11/6/2007 9:24:17 PM
2 miles so far.
11/6/2007 9:24:38 PM
i need to get back into itbut i need new shoes
11/6/2007 9:25:14 PM
thats good if you can run 2 miles without stopping...gg kiwi
11/6/2007 9:26:28 PM
11/6/2007 9:26:29 PM
Oh I have to stop but only a few times, I'm doing better though.Toe lifts...are they self explanatory on how to do them? lol
11/6/2007 9:33:32 PM
lemme see if i can find the picture
11/6/2007 9:34:34 PM
or you can do what i did. hop up on the table like illustrated in the pic. tie a rope around the weight and hang the rope from the front of your foot so it's dangling from your toes (it'll be a good idea to wear shoes).then, just do like 2 or 3 sets of 30reps per foot and that should be good enough for a session. turns out that my problem was that my calf was so much stronger than my "shin muscle," every time i took a stride it was like i was drilling my shin into the ground. you prolly have the same problem but it's an easy fix with the toe lifts.
11/6/2007 9:40:52 PM
This is how yoshie and evan do it
11/6/2007 9:41:15 PM
....ok that was kinduv funny, gg DiamondAce
11/6/2007 9:42:28 PM
Should I do these even if I don't have any pain in my shins yet? I'm just worried that they may pop up.
11/6/2007 9:44:42 PM
you should have a 3:1 strength ratio between calf raises and toe lifts[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 9:46 PM. Reason : backwards]
11/6/2007 9:46:19 PM
yea i prolly would. the thing i hate about shin splints is that when you get them, you can't have a scheduled workout routine, you can only run when they don't hurt (or atleast you're supposed to). that didn't work to well with me.if you've had them before, chances are they'll pop up again sometime or another. if you're serious about getting into running, i'd do the toe lifts as a precaution, it would suck to get into a groove and then have to sit out for 2 weeks.
11/6/2007 9:47:52 PM
i noticed i havent had shin splints since 2004...i kinda wonder why...
11/6/2007 9:48:57 PM
Ok thanks for the advice
11/6/2007 9:55:09 PM
if you keep on running the pain goes away. I did this for the first half of the summer. They went away for the 2nd half. But by then i was in really good shape. now im tubby like fuchsia
11/6/2007 9:58:34 PM
11/6/2007 9:59:40 PM
i got them when i first started a couple years ago.i never get them now. unless i run like 10 miles without stretching.and by stretching i mean stretching long enough to raise my heart rate. or break a sweat.THATS CALLED STRETCHING.
11/6/2007 10:07:30 PM
There's a thread about this in the lounge.
11/6/2007 10:31:22 PM
One of the biggest causes of shin splints is irregular muscular development due to improper footwear or having shoes with the wrong kind of arch support. Go to a running store and have your feet measured so you know what footwear to buy in order to prevent shin splints.
11/6/2007 10:34:37 PM
what are you a pederast or something?
11/6/2007 10:37:53 PM
what's a pederast, walter?
11/6/2007 10:40:16 PM
ha ha i dont know why i never noticed how witty and humorous this diamondace guy is. ha haha haha ha
11/6/2007 10:40:41 PM
What's a better way to run and lose excess weight; Doing something similar to HIIT where you do short bursts at full speed then slow down to catch your breath then repeator try to run the whole thing at a moderate pace (so you can speak short sentences at least) keeping your heart rate the same but increasing endurance?I do the HIIT thing because it increases my heartrate pretty well and I feel like I'm getting something out of it whereas keeping a steady speed won't burn as much.

I wish that I loved running. So many people say they feel so free while running. I like running when I have a disc to catch. I have not played ultimate in a while though.I dreamed that I was playing with Peyton Manning last night. That was interesting.[Edited on November 7, 2007 at 10:21 AM. Reason : ...]
11/7/2007 10:17:42 AM
you cant just run all the time. unless you want to look like those anorexic freaks.you also have to do muscle work outs, so you dont burn all your muscles from running.
11/7/2007 10:22:36 AM
Anytime I try running I get really bored.[Edited on November 7, 2007 at 10:24 AM. Reason : what makes it fun for you guys?]
11/7/2007 10:23:46 AM
I strength train as well but usually only my upper body. I'll do my abductors because I don't think running really strengthens them but I know the rest of my legs are good, my abs have been incredible since I've started running too. So it's just upper body that I focus on for now. Maybe I'll do some lunges and squats to help growth a little.Bring some music and try to run to the beat. I notice music helps my breathing a lot because I'll focus on the kickass song and not how hard my body is working.[Edited on November 7, 2007 at 10:30 AM. Reason : Plus I challenge myself to see how far I can go.]
11/7/2007 10:27:40 AM
yee if you do nothing but run you'll turn flabby. hit the weightroom atleast once a week to keep a firm tone.btw, it's amazing how much a good playlist will help you out when you run. i think the sound of me breathing hard makes me tired/lazy... i tried running without my ipod a couple times and i couldn't do it, i got way too tired way too fast.
11/7/2007 11:26:14 AM
yeah, you are gonna have to also weight train your legs. dont think running is good enough for strong legs, they arent gonna be strong because the resistance against your legs doesnt increase like it would when you lift weights with your legs. so you are just burning fat/muscle and not making muscle. unless you increased your weight when you ran
11/7/2007 11:43:04 AM
11/7/2007 12:34:53 PM
do you run outside or on a treadmill? its harder for me to run on a treadmill...
11/7/2007 12:52:11 PM
Treadmills suck. The scenery never changes and it gets boring. Run outside. Seeing new things keeps the mind active and you'll be able to run a lot farther. Also, if you come up against "the wall", where you don't think you can make another step, just keep going...you'll break thru.[Edited on November 7, 2007 at 12:59 PM. 11/7/2007 1:05:22 PM
lol
11/7/2007 1:05:24 PM
sometimes i can't run outside though...i have to be at work at 7:30 and i leave work at 6, and it gets dark early now, so i use the treadmill at the gym

11/7/2007 1:07:43 PM
So I've been wanting to run and become more active after graduating, but never found the motivation after work or whatever. I'm in decent shape and have been trying to lift weights and keep mostly my upper body in check. Is signing up to run an 8K this weekend one of the stupidest things I can do to try to get motivated to start running on the regular?
