There used to be a store named Birtches... it was like American Eagle and Aeropostale and Limited all tied into one. Needless to say... there USED to be a store named Britches.

I had a coat from there and loved it. It fell apart after 2 years.

^^ quite the opposite, the white non-hispanic ethnic composition of the South (at least until recently) was largely English and Scottish with a few Irish. The adoption of the term britches from the term breeches bespeaks the largely Anglo-Saxon pedigree of the South. In other worlds, it might be a bastardization, but its our bastardization.
