just got a new hp laptop with home vista. i installed firefox and it worked just fine for about two weeks.a message popped up the other day that there was an update for firefox so i clicked to upload it. it said to restart my computer. i did that.when i restarted and tried to pull up firefox it said "problem loading page." i uninstalled firefox, downloaded the .exe file on my roomie's computer, and reinstalled it three times and it never worked. internet explorer and netscape both say the same thing, "problem loading page." i am having to use someone else's computer.what is the problem? my hp laptop is still connecting to the internet because i can get on aim and my gadget things still work. my roomie's internet on her computer is fine.

i don't know, but any "firefox update" that requires you to restart your whole computer is fake. Sound like you authorized the download and install of some kind of virus
11/3/2007 4:51:39 PM
so what do i do?
11/3/2007 4:56:31 PM
the usual.......run anti-virus (you do have anti-virus, right?)run Windows Defenderrun other spyware/malware cleaners like Spybot S&D, Adaware, CCleaner
11/3/2007 5:11:16 PM
does internet explorer work after you uninstall firefox?
11/3/2007 5:14:34 PM
im scanning with antivirus right now .. but i downloaded adaware last week and its just gone now?
11/3/2007 5:14:45 PM
no.. but now that i think about it, i.e. wasnt working even before firefox died. but i didnt care because i had firefox. now i have none
11/3/2007 5:15:44 PM
ok well so far now that you put ^ everything in this thread reminds me of something that happened to me oncei ended up uninstalling explorer and my internet worked againanother similar problem happened with zonealarms firefall before i started using windows default firewall[Edited on November 3, 2007 at 5:18 PM. Reason : try different combos of shit and tell us what happens?(no firefox, but ie, no ie but firefox, etc]
11/3/2007 5:17:11 PM
so why would uninstalling i.e. make firefox work?
11/3/2007 5:18:16 PM
idk but i went back to 6.0 and the shit workedi literally didnt care about having ie 7 for a whole yeari got ie 7 now with no problems...aint really had no problems since i got ride of zonealarm[Edited on November 3, 2007 at 5:20 PM. Reason : plus i thought the problem was firefox and it ended up being ie...might be yo problem...]
11/3/2007 5:19:46 PM
i don't know if i would want to mess with uninstalling I.E..... that's messing with the internals pretty deep
11/3/2007 5:20:13 PM
unintall ie7i didnt get rid of it all the way...
11/3/2007 5:21:42 PM
well, i just dont want to uninstall anything that came with my computer. my computer-y friend is out of town this weekend so i dont have anyone to look at it! i really need this to work.
11/3/2007 5:24:53 PM
my computer just finished scanning and no viruses were found.
11/3/2007 5:25:41 PM
was it firefox update 2.0.0.9 cuz i got dat da other day
11/3/2007 5:31:13 PM
most important advice for you right now is DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING DRUNKNLOADED SAYS he is the village idiot.
11/3/2007 5:34:46 PM
Well at least you got the "vista sucks" part right. The firefox updates always tell you to just restart the browser instead of the entire computer. Are you using wireless or regular ethernet and have you checked to make sure you're actually connected to the network?
11/3/2007 5:35:16 PM
i bet i could fix her problem in person better than i could on the internet
11/3/2007 5:37:33 PM
^^she is a female...she may just thought it said restart computer but really just said restart firefox[Edited on November 3, 2007 at 5:53 PM. Reason : how many processes do you have running right now?]
11/3/2007 5:38:10 PM
im using wireless.. it has to be connected right? bc im on aim ...
11/3/2007 6:26:19 PM
have you tried uninstalling all your browsers and installing them one by one? and after you download the first one you see if you got internet, etc?have you looked at your firewall yet?what exactly have you done to get your browsers working?
11/3/2007 6:29:41 PM
shot in the dark bc, while vista isn't the best by far... idk that this is a vista-caused problem...is there an option to go offline in firefox? i can't remember if there is or not, it's been a while, but that could be one possible mistake
11/3/2007 6:46:12 PM
ha, I didn't even see in the original post where you said you could get on aim. For firefox there is an option under file for Work Offline but it gives a message similar to:
11/3/2007 7:05:32 PM
"work offline" was not checked.

Viruses and spywarez.Download and install AVG antivirus and AVG antispyware and run some searches with that in addition to what you're already using (I'm assuming the Symantec Antivirus given out by free from the university). Run searches in safemode, run searches in windows, repeat repeat repeat. If one antivirus package finds shit, and the other one doesn't find anything, uninstall the one that doesn't find anything (it's probably infected and reinstalling shit on your computer). And where did this popup message come from/look like?I hope it wasn't a pic on a webpage. D:
11/3/2007 7:45:40 PM
no it was one of those conversation bubbles that pops up on your toolbar where the volume picture is, and the two little TVs, and the symantec picture, and the little aim man .. just like the little message bubble that says "new windows updates" .. thats why i thought it was ok.
11/3/2007 7:50:44 PM
well then that would probably be a windows update that fucked it up, not firefox.
11/3/2007 7:52:53 PM
no im saying it was LIKE a windows update .. LOOKS the same but it definitely said "firefox update"
11/3/2007 7:53:57 PM
are you plugged in to wired outlet, and on wireless?? Ive seen issues with this before. Make sure you only have 1 internet connection enabled, either wireless or wired lan.

11/4/2007 11:59:04 AM
we generally saw this problem when people had stuff like Norton Internet Security or some other craptastic firewall/AV sfotware. got any of that?
11/4/2007 9:49:46 PM
It's not Vista's fault that you are completely incompetent.
11/5/2007 12:19:15 AM
^seriouslyi tried to be nice to this bitch and help her and she fucking ignored mei bet i could fix this shit in like 10 minutes tops
11/5/2007 12:20:47 AM
