I learned that a .22 calibur bullet is an effective, but not very efficient way of killing yourself.

brains oozing out of a hole in someone's head isn't really as gross as i was afraid it would be.

I saw someone's temperature reach 106.2

It probably would have reached 107 or higher, but i packed him in ice and gave him a gram of tylenol.

i think 110 is the highest temp recorded on our unit.

i've made mention of the miracle properties of zofran before. it's the trade off of massive constipation that some people find a turn off.

it's the first time you've seen a suicide up close?

Well, I'm 30 weeks pregnant and I lost 7 pounds in two weeks because I couldn't keep anything down other than Ensure and ice chips. Zofran was like the miracle that I have been praying for pretty much my entire pregnancy.

didnt learn anything new last night

but i sure did have a crash and burn patient... ruptured aneurysm.

and then it ruptured AGAIN 10 minutes before he got to us

i do wonder about the quality of healthcare in our rural areas.... who in their RIGHT FREAKING MIND gives a 60some year old with a ruptured aneurysm 10mg of morphine and 2 mg of dilaudid!!!!?

i love it when we have to shove an ET tube in a patient within an hour of his arrival, because the narcan didnt work

Yeah, rural healthcare is terrible. That's if you make it to hospital at all. Where I'm from, ambulance response times are around 30 minutes, then it's an hour drive to the nearest hospital.

yeah he died at 645 that night

family withdrew support just before we were about to initiate brain death testing

he was about to lose his respiratory drive.

there was nothing we could have done for him from the beginning, we kept him comfortable until the family could come to grips with everything.
