having a single "Independent" party is retarded, because by definition, they don't fit well in a group.

But it is entirely possible to have multiple smaller parties where people can much more closely fit their own beliefs to their party.

Germany, for example, has 5 parties that each have >8% representation in the parliament

Makes sense though in the end, when the governing alliances form, I imagine that they will look much like the Democratic and Republican Party we see today.
