It doesn't really surprise me anymore. Many of the Republicans come from a christian background, especially one that condemns homosexuality and makes them feel very ashamed for being gay. So of course they're going to be hard-asses against other gays; they want to look nice and righteous so that they won't go to hell and jor Jesus to love them (in the butt).

Even in Christianity sex outside of marriage is a grave sin.

On the Day of Judgement all your good and bad deeds will be brought in front of you and "put on a scale". If your good deeds are more in weight/value (not all deeds are of course weighted equally), you go to heaven, otherwise you go to hell.

Of course, if you have repented *sincerely* for your bad deeds, they are wiped out from your record.

Furthermore, people you who have any objection towards you (you robbed them, cheated them, killed them, whatever), will be asked to come forward. God will give take some of your good deeds from your balance/scale and give them to those you wronged/oppressed. Then he will ask them if they are happy. If they say no, he will give some more, until they are satisfied. Of course, if they wish to forgive you and not want any of your good deeds, that's their prerogative.
