if you're good at one or more of them, then pick that 1 for the easy a
10/31/2007 10:31:59 AM
if you take volleyball- make sure to take it with kagendo! she was awesome. winslow was pretty awful. also, my bro took rockclimbing and really liked it.
10/31/2007 10:10:14 PM
holden no doubttake that guy for real
10/31/2007 10:27:20 PM
good luck getting into rockclimbing
11/1/2007 12:09:29 AM
i had a great time in rock climbing. i had jones and it was an easy a+. plus you get to stare at the cheerleaders while they practice if you take it in the spring at the right time of day haha.
11/1/2007 10:18:54 AM
i had winslow for volleyball and he was great. my roommate & i took it together and sucked at volleyball, but he always made the skills tests easier for us cause he could see that we were trying but were still bad.i would say rockclimbing, because it's unique, and i'm sure you already know how to play basketball. the others aren't too hard to figure out (volleyball, tennis, badminton), unless you're playing a serious game where you need to know all the rules. or since you're still in your early years, just take one that's easy to get into for your PE credit, and then rockclimbing or canoeing another year as a free elective.

^ I second that

rock climbing was amazing. I took 258 over the summer and i'm in 259 now. youngest in the class, but it's still a lot of fun.
11/2/2007 8:09:17 PM

11/2/2007 9:22:06 PM

11/3/2007 12:16:00 AM

If you're just trying to find a fun PE, I would suggest Tennis I with Youtt. He is great, you'll have lots of fun, and tennis is a great game to know. There are lots of social opportunities in playing tennis as Youtt usually points out during the class. Also, don't take a PE for a grade unless you're like some kind of HS state champion or college level athlete in that sport. I'd say 95% of the people who take it for a grade regret it, but thats just from my experience. If you do decide to take say...Wrestling for a grade because someone said it was easy just make sure that someone wasn't Rulon Gardner.

if you want to be one of those people, that take it for a grade and are super happy blah blah blah of the class and get the a+, then take it for a grade. if not, then take a wild guess.i was one of those people once

^are you saying volleyball isn't a "real" sport?
11/7/2007 4:27:27 PM
Of course not...
11/7/2007 4:37:41 PM
i mean, i'm pretty sure the whole 'sports vs not a sport' argument is way old, but... volleyball takes a lot of skill, and i'm not talking about the high school gym class version of it. any sport takes a lot of skill to get good at it. basically, volleyball is a sport, but i don't really care what you think. it's fun either way.ps take volleyball, it's a really fun sport. winslow is nice, he's big on the high fives and everyone just having fun. kageno is really nice (if i'm thinking of the right person) and she might make you work harder and try to get people to play according to the rules. there's an inter-class tournament at the end of the semester that you can play in, which is always fun.
11/7/2007 11:04:17 PM
Tennis II passed it with 0 prior tennis experience (I took it w/ Cheek). I'd advise that you go to Target, Wally World, etc. and buy an el cheapo racquet (if you don't already own one), since the gym issue racquets are atrocious.Any PE class with Kidd is going to be awesome. I had him for the flag football class, and he's always upbeat and positive. But basketball could be hit or miss, depending on how many assclowns take the games and winning/losing too seriously.

I know Youtt through some local pros, and he's an excellent tennis instructor. He tends to be more serious, but will develop your game more than the other coaches (PTA certified to my knowledge).
11/8/2007 2:26:06 AM
I'm taking Youtt for tennis I now and it's pretty fun, granted I played a bit of tennis beforehand. Only kinda annoying thing is getting up at 9 am to go play in 40 degree weather, brrrrr....The fun thing about Youtt is that there's only about a 2-3 weeks of instruction and the rest is actually playing, so you end up having a lot of fun. FWIW, he tends to match up better players and vice versa, but you WILL get better at tennis by the end, thats a guarantee.
11/8/2007 8:32:19 AM
youtt isn't teaching tennis this semester, only:tharringtonremenleathand krotee
11/8/2007 11:25:39 AM
PE226 -- scuba. Best class ever.
11/8/2007 2:04:14 PM
^heck yes. take Rever.
11/8/2007 5:20:44 PM
There's no option for next semester -- only 3 sections being taught, and Rever is teaching them all.As the university slowly turns from an institution of education into a business, it's paring back the more expensive outdoor classes. If it's an equipment-intensive or expensive outside class, they're slowly cutting the budget and cutting classes.Sad, really.

Does NCSU offer Curling as a PE?If not, someone should get on that.
11/8/2007 11:09:11 PM
^ not that i know of.
11/9/2007 12:29:20 PM
^^doesn't curling require a big ice covered surface? Maybe they could hold it at RBC Center...during hockey games
11/10/2007 6:58:28 PM
While it's not on your list, I'm going to have to suggest archery... with any of the professors. Most relaxed PE possible.Otherwise, basketball with Kidd. He's a really great PE coach.
11/11/2007 12:43:12 AM
^I'm in this right now, it's a decent class. I haven't taken any other PEs to compare it with, though...Definitely take credit only, though. The only people in my class making an A right now are the ones who have past archery experience.
11/11/2007 12:54:21 AM

Beginning Karate with Sensei Pollard. EASIEST CLASS EVER.Can you do 30 pushups and 30 situps? Can you stand in line and throw punches? EASY.Plus, Sensei Pollard makes it fun and very interesting. He really loves what he does and is a great guy to hang around with.
11/12/2007 1:42:00 AM
^But if you've had any sort of training prior to that, he likes to make you his practice dummy and throw you around the room.I'd say take Ultimate frisbee, PE 266 I think. And make sure you take it with Ousley, the guy is freaking awesome.
