One of my friends wants to transfer from NCSU, he is not sure yet.

Anyone else ever felt the same way?

Maybe if he came here to do engineering and couldn't cut it or decided it wasn't for him, but this is assuming he didn't want to try something else reputable here. Most people transfer up so if he is doing this then that’s ok (school name or degree program), but if he is considering going somewhere lower (for whatever he wants to do) then I don't see the point.

Before coming here I had narrowed it down to UNC and State. I decided to come to State for engineering, but w/in the first semester I figured out I would hate anything engineering and seriously considered transferring. One of the big things that stopped me was that I had already invested a lot of my time in finding my place (socially at least) here, and I figured if I transferred to Carolina my sophomore year, I would be behind the 8-ball as far as friends go. I decided to stay and I'm definitely glad I did. State's a large enough school that if you aren't cut out for a particular major, there is probably at least one other one that you could be seriously interested in. This was also one of the reasons I originally chose State over Carolina. State has a little bit of everything as far as majors offered. Carolina is limited to liberal arts, and CALS type majors, + a few others.

^ SECONDED, did engineering for a year did pretty well but hated it (well enough to transfer to any college). Switched to Economics and Stats instead of transferring.

i'm transferring after the spring semester to go to uc-irvine for 2 reasons...1)switching into their genetics major & 2)to live in southern ca as opposed to nc

it's a win-win, except for the lack of football team, so i'll still be a pack fan

Didn't want to. Had to. What's done is done. I'm just glad I'll get a degree in the concentration that I want.

^^irvine has one of the top genetics programs in the us junior, and would much rather live on the beach with mountains only 2 hrs away and something that resembles a nightlife than this paradise known as raleigh, nc

i'm fully aware that people around here much prefer spending half their weekend watching cars turn left 3,000 times (you hicks call it nascar), country music, annoying as hell southern accents, and making out with cousins and thus much prefer this raleigh, nc area...to each their own

um, i live in san diego and my office is 100m from the pacific, junior

uc-irvine is a good school, but i still think orange county sucks and it's certainly not known for its nightlife

good luck in socal, might want to leave the attitude in nc though

I did, after one semester when i changed majors(from MEA to Bus) I came to state due to the MEA program(only State and UNC A offer). I thought about UNC and UNC G(they have a pretty good program and that was where I would of gone had I stuck with a Bus major instead of switching to MEA) It would of been a pain to transfer so I transfered into the Bus program when all the construction was going on...Nelson was in pretty bad shape at that time(had to dodge construction stuff to get to the person to talk to about transferring). It actually got accredited while I was there.

i transferred from NCSU after my sophomore year. best decision i ever made. now i live in colorado, love my new major, and go snowboarding every weekend.
however, it did put another year on the time it would take me to graduate. the only advice i can tell you is to tell your friend to research it a lot. and if you think a change of schools will make you happier, do it... its easier than you think and better than being miserable for 4 years wishing you had changed to a school that was better suited for you.

my situation is as follows.

I'll be graduating may 08 (if everything goes as planned) with a degree in Communication Media.

It is at this point I am thinking of transferring to a school to pursue an undergraduate music degree. I'm enrolled in the performance minor here at state, but I need something that will better prepare me for real life applications and other opportunities.

My number one pick is Berklee up in Boston (if I can get in), but I've also been looking at ASU and ECU. I've never been to Boone, but I know I really don't want to spend 2 years in Greenville.

I've also thought of attempting to get a job straight out of college whilst trying to self educate myself on music knowledge, and see how I feel come next December having (hopefully) worked for 6 months.

Also, my instrument is Guitar, if anyone was interested.

Thoughts?

^wait, so are you transferring, or just going for a 2nd degree after you finish your first?

and what exactly is it that you plan to do w/ your guitar for these "real life applications"?

Going for a second degree.

As far as real life applications I'm referring to being prepared as a performer for any number of playing situations, styles, etc. General knowledge of theory, harmony, and how to apply it to the guitar is what I want to learn about.

^^^You have never been to Boone?

Even if you don't go to ASU, you need to see Boone, it's quite different from anywhere else in NC.

And ASU's music department is 2nd to none in these parts. Might want to look into that more.

I think I am realizing there is no way I could attend Berklee even if I wanted to. Simply couldn't pay the tuition. Maybe I'll try and attend a summer session for a taste of what it's like. haha.

Time to do some research on ASU!

Boone's really pretty pleasant. The winters kind of suck, but the summers are really very beautiful. The nightlife isn't great, but if you get drunk during the day out at the swimming hole or on the parkway, then you should be passed out by nighttime anyway.
Greenville blows.

Not really. I was a legacy admission and it was the only school that I applied to. I was pretty sure that I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life.

My bubble was burst when I realized that Biology might be for me, but Chemistry was not. It would be impossible to get a Biology degree without taking all of the Chemistry and I was also enjoying the hell out of my English classes. For a split second, I thought that I might be better off getting my English degree from somewhere else, but then I realized that I was enjoying the hell out of my English classes because I liked NCSU's English Dept.

Pretty much.

I just ended up doing what I should have done in the first place. I always wanted to teach, but it didn't matter what. I went into Biology because I got a 5 on the AP exam. Everyone told me that I was making a mistake because they all knew me as a paper writing book nerd. They were right.

I probably would have still ended up at NCSU even if I had originally chosen English, but it did cross my mind that NCSU might not be the college for English.

I was unhappy after my freshman year and hated Raleigh. I submitted all the paperwork and was ready to transfer to UNCG and then realized it would probably be even worse. I ended up just changing majors to English instead.

I wish that I had gone to my first choice school, NYU, but I couldn't cover the costs.
