so alot of big timers on the boards over at PP, IC and even a word on ESPN radio today about it.claiming that they have offered 3.2 mill and would buy him out at UNC.could be interesting next few weeks
10/28/2007 2:28:19 PM
I would laugh my ass off if he left mid season and took the Arkansas job.
10/28/2007 2:32:46 PM
i would love it.
10/28/2007 2:36:37 PM
he would be an idiot to go there
10/28/2007 2:37:41 PM
you have to keep in mind though, it's his alma mater.you know you'd do it if it was you and tennessee.
10/28/2007 2:40:19 PM
Arkansas does not equal Tennesseeif my alma mater was Vandy, and I was at UNC... no
10/28/2007 2:41:53 PM
^^^why?his alma mater, has connections with Tyson...doesnt have to play second string to basketball, its a true football school and I think more importantly he has said its his dream job/situation...if he doesnt take it now it may not open up for another 5-8 years...and with his health and all who knows.id like to see him go just to UNC fans could cry some more.[Edited on October 28, 2007 at 2:43 PM. 10/28/2007 2:42:18 PM
^^ arkansas is not at all the same situation as vandy, though.
10/28/2007 2:44:14 PM
Arkansas has shitty talent typically, all that they do have will be gone after this year, but yet the fan have really high expectations. As much as I hate them, I have said over and over that UNC football is a sleeping giant with the right person, especially how down the ACC is... large university, lots of alumni who would spend a lot of money on a good team etc... they remind me of Tennessee in bball a few years ago and Davis is their Pearl
10/28/2007 2:48:39 PM
UNC football a sleeping giant? Yeah, they'll crack the top 10 eventually, then they'll let the coach go because he's interfering with basketball attention, and they'll suck for years. Do you honestly think Davis took the job thinking it would be something that'd last? He's just trying to get back into college football and waiting for a good opening, and it looks like he might've found it.

Houston NUtt is a dumb bitch for letting Mitch Mustain, winner of 4 national player of the year awards in HS, go and Mustain's talented entourage from Springdale. Now, he is going to get fired and get screwed. Butch Davis isn't going to take that job;1. They play in such a hard conference. The SEC is a lot more competitive than the ACC. Wins are very hard to come by. 2. The expecations there are too hight. Nutt went to the SEC Championship last year. Just finishing with a winning record every year isn't enough to keep you around. 3. After Jones, Macfadden (Juniors), Monk(Senior) and Luigs( Junior) graduates, their entire offense is pretty much lost. Casey Dick is inept at offense and he cann't mangement the game very well without a strong running game. 4. Rest of the players they have on offense are unproven; their defense will be solid in the near future but their offense remains questionable after the departure of their star players.
10/28/2007 2:53:56 PM
Arkansas has the type of rich, crazy boosters to do it. It wouldn't surprise me...but the fact that it's come up in the middle of the year makes me believe it's just a rumor.
10/28/2007 2:54:16 PM
no no, arkansas fan base is no where NEAR UNC... hell, UNC probably brings in more $ from merchandising alone than Arkansas brings in total... Arkansas is not a good program at all... I would have Vandy the lowest in the SEC, then probably Arkansas, maybe Miss. State.ONLY thing I could see is if his health stays bad and he just wants to be close to home (if he still has family around there)
10/28/2007 2:55:13 PM
^^ it's not like davis has never taken a job in the middle of the year...[Edited on October 28, 2007 at 2:55 PM. Reason : ^]
10/28/2007 2:55:28 PM
Doesn't matter the size of the fan base...all it takes is a few guys like T. Boone-Pickens or that guy from Oregon to throw a few million around and they have their coach. I don't see UNC wanting to match dollar bills in football with an SEC school other than the Mississippi's and Vanderbilts.[Edited on October 28, 2007 at 3:00 PM. Reason : in football]
10/28/2007 2:59:27 PM
maybe... but once again, picture UT bball when Pearl first got there...
10/28/2007 3:00:32 PM
i hate to break it to you but UT bb isnt an elite program yet
10/28/2007 3:01:17 PM
oh please let this be true. I don't know though I gave Davis atleast three years before making the leap to a different team, but his alma mater oh shit balls mcGee that would be so fucking funny. On a completely different side note I hope Sidney stays a good long while, I can see him maybe getting lured back to NBA with the right paycheck.[Edited on October 28, 2007 at 3:05 PM. Just to reiterate
10/28/2007 3:33:54 PM
sigh... and you should know that they just joined the SEC in 1991... dont doubt me bitchand I really dont get what you two mean when you say that Tennessee isnt an elite program yet... are you saying that Arkansas football is and therefore you cant compare them or something? They arent, and that makes no sense even if they were...MY whole point in bringing up Tennessee is that they were a shitty program with a lot of potential when Pearl went there. Lots of people were saying "he will only be there for so long... as soon as the Iowa job opens he is gone" and it didnt happen... so therefore I feel that there might be a similar situation with Davis and UNC. Did I say Tennessee is an "elite program"? No, of course not... but they are a program on the rise with many of the parts needed for an elite program already in place: really good stadium/arena, large fan base, booster willing to donate a lot of money etc. All they needed was a cach to bring it all together...[Edited on October 28, 2007 at 3:49 PM. 10/28/2007 3:39:09 PM
this is all such bullshit
10/28/2007 3:46:01 PM
^ lol.it might be bullshit, but i love it anyway.
10/28/2007 3:48:52 PM
Just once in a coaching vacancy, it would be nice if know-it-all fans would understand that we know that "the team is probably not that good" and "players X,Y,Z are gone after this year and they will be terrible next year". **NEWSFLASH** It's not unusual for a coach to take a job where the current situation is less than stellar, (smacks forehead), that's why they fired the current coach and are seeking what they think to be a more successful coach. Now, Davis is an alum of Arkansas, that is reason enough to go back. Throw in the SEC and the best division in college football in the SEC west and it's a no brainer if the money is there. If the money is not, then it's not as clear.UNC is about as much of a sleeping giant as any school out there in DI if you ask me. NCSU, UNC, Wake, and ECU battle for recruits in the state and we also attempt to fight off SEC teams as well creating huge hurdles. The only real sleeping giant that I see in the ACC would be Clemson, rabid fan base, nice facilities, easy place to recruit for football, and they do have a trophy in their case
10/28/2007 4:18:15 PM
10/28/2007 4:25:09 PM
^^ I pretty much agreed with all you said except this:
10/28/2007 4:27:00 PM
10/28/2007 4:31:00 PM
That would be like Dennis Erickson leaving Idaho after one year to go take the Arizona State job.I love making a comparison that makes Carolina the equivalent of Idaho football.
10/28/2007 4:32:42 PM
^^ no... "sleeping" means they have all the things needed to be really good but just havent had the players/coach. Clemson has had plenty of talent, PLENTY and tons of people at their games, football dominates at Clemson. BBall at Tennessee and football at UNC have been afterthoughts for decadesIt would be retarded to say that UT bball has "underachieved", no one had expectations otherwise, everyone knew they sucked [Edited on October 28, 2007 at 4:36 PM. Reason : d]
10/28/2007 4:34:10 PM
10/28/2007 4:40:24 PM
they've had good coaches... and a shitload of talent. Clemson is no where near a "sleeping giant", its a football dominated school with a packed house every saturday... hell a team that has won a national championship cant be a sleeping giant
10/28/2007 4:43:03 PM
i disagree but back on topicbutch davis is a faggot
10/28/2007 4:45:44 PM
10/28/2007 4:49:20 PM
you would call pitt a sleeping giant?the distinction that i would make is that a "sleeping giant" is a team that has potential to be built up. clemson is totally built up, they just don't break through.[Edited on October 28, 2007 at 4:54 PM. Reason : aside from '81, that is.]
10/28/2007 4:50:42 PM
yeah, why would UNC want to be both a good basketball school and a good football school when they could be a good basketball school and a mediocre football school?some of you people are fucking retarded
10/28/2007 4:51:18 PM
hahahahahaha, Pitt
10/28/2007 4:51:31 PM
10/28/2007 4:53:18 PM
therefore they arent a sleeping giantthey just suck now
10/28/2007 4:53:56 PM
10/28/2007 4:55:47 PM
arkansas is a MUCH MUCH MUCH better footballl situation than unc - you people are retarted
10/28/2007 5:02:26 PM
no one said otherwise... but one has high expectations and will have shitty talent next year and be in the same division as LSU and Bama and Auburn, the other will have low expectations, shitty talent and not have LSU, Bama, and Auburn
10/28/2007 5:04:16 PM
butch davis isnt one to back down from a challengeespecially if it is his alma mater and a place where football is actually relevant
10/28/2007 5:07:38 PM
perhaps.. as I said the only thing I could see drawing him back would be family and just wanting to prove he can win in the best conference
10/28/2007 5:09:18 PM
10/28/2007 5:40:47 PM
^ you're taking these a little far, i do believe.
10/28/2007 5:42:47 PM
10/28/2007 6:00:58 PM
"good team"as in they spend money on bball, one would assume that if the football team was doing well they would also contribute to that as well...
