democrats are always screaming about using diplomacy and not go to war, but when a republican uses diplomacy (e.g. sanctions on Iran) they say its a prelude to war.wtf democrats? you're full of shit.

I don't think that sanctions = diplomacy seeing has how the definition of diplomacy from merriam webster is:

well what fucking word would you like me to use? democrats don't want war, and when they use sanctions they say that it is the way to go to pressure a country into doing whatever. but when republicans use sanctions, its a prelude to war[Edited on October 26, 2007 at 9:19 AM. Reason : .]

Economics are in no way a form of diplomacy.

I do not see why the US is so shocked at the belligerence of Iran. If China decided to invade Mexico under the purpose of "regime' change" I am sure the US would become hostile toward China also. Even if we decided not to all out invade, if in this hypothetical scenario did not have the resources to commit to such an invasion, I am sure we would be financing and assisting terrorists freedom fighters to help destabilize the Chinese influence within Mexico. We have the monroe doctrine in the Western Hemisphere where we buck up to any old world interference toward any country over here.

I get the fucking point that you think sanctions are a form of diplomacy. They aren't , nullifying the rest of your argument. Your position is undermined by your own doing. Try again.
10/26/2007 9:51:34 AM
hahaIran is so gonna call our bluff
10/26/2007 10:03:23 AM
hope they do. i honestly do not give a flying fuck about iran. unless iran is marching troops through my front lawn, targeting a missile at grandma's window, or leading a coalition of countries that are economically sanctioning the US then let AJ bitch and moan all he wants.

I don't think Democrats are worried about using diplomacy with Iran. I think they are reluctant to pass legislation the President might use to support irresponsible actions. Why would they think President Bush might use these sorts of bills to, I don't know, invade a Middle Eastern country named Ira_?

Sanctions rarely work and usually indirectly target the poor. One recent success utilizing sanctions were the sanctions drafted by John Bolton and placed on North Korea in which we no longer treated North Korea as a rational state, but rather as a child. The sanctions included Russian Beluga caviar and French Champagne and Beaujolais wines. The list was comprised of items to which Kim Jong Il ascribed great personal pleasure. We took his toys away and he started to play nice.Unfortunately, it won't be that easy in Iran.

Sanctions =/= diplomacy. That's like calling an embargo diplomacy. What's diplomatic about starving a country of its necessary and essential resources?
10/26/2007 5:15:25 PM
it annoys me that our president seems deadset on putting this country in as many shitty diplomatic positions as possible before he leaves office.
10/26/2007 5:19:45 PM
it annoys me that the president said we'd get bin laden "dead or alive" but then gave up and sent everyone to iraq

^^^^ Funny you should say that - since you clearly don't know anything about the current situation with France's political leadership I'll let you know that the current French President is pretty much the only Western leader who is at all supporting the option of using force against Iran. Not to mention he recently visited the family compound at Kennebunkport - we're 'good friends' again in the mind of Bush.[Edited on October 26, 2007 at 5:29 PM. It annoys me that democrats seem to think that diplomacy will get us anywhere in dealing with hostile regimes."Hey yall, lets play nice!"
10/26/2007 5:23:46 PM
^^^^^ an embargo is an act of war, though^^^^^^^ Libya has straightened up a lot in the last few years (I think they basically saw post 9/11 that we were fucking pissed and likely to smack a country--or two--or three around, and they didn't want it to be Libya [again]).
