Long story short: I will pay to have it fixed or recommend a plumber. Essentially I have no idea how to stop it from running; the part that seals the water from going into bowl won't always close, I just want to about rip the entire thing out and blow it up with a nuclear warhead in Iran

dont quite understand the post, but take the top off, and lift the bobber. if it "stops running" then its still trying to fill with water and something has it caught. find out what it is.its probably bent out of shape or something.then do a nice upperdeck on it and close the lid

you don't even have to figure out what's broken, they have kits at lowes to replace everything in the tank for like $20

^do they have tanks with clear plastic and mesh over the drain, to stick a couple goldfish in? Cause thats what I'd do.

if by "they" you mean lowes, then no; if you mean anyone, then yes[Edited on October 25, 2007 at 3:35 PM. Reason : &]

You can try a universal flapper first and see if that seals it. It's also good to drain the water out, and take some vinegar or CLR and run it around the rubber seal to eliminate any mineral deposits that might be built up and preventing a really good seal.If a flapper doesn't work, what I found worked reasonably well is a kit that creates a new drain. It comes with a rubber ring of putty that you place over the old drain hole, then you press into the putty a new opening. This opening seals the old hole with the putty, then it has a flapper built into it that should fit perfectly with the newly created hole.I think $6 at lowes or something, maybe $10-12?

jcashfan sent me a pm, and thanks- looking at my working toilet which is the same kind and I see whats going on, the plastic part between the handle and the flapper is bent/cracking! So I will see what needs to be done; I shut off the water to it months ago and need to do that too.Now in the same room there is a leaky sink- any area where the drain is connecting to other parts (screwing together) is leaking, in more than a couple of places too. Grrrrr

I just replaced intake valve on my toilet..got the set from ace hardware. it was pretty easy, tho required some innovation and a new water line because the pvc pipe they used wasnt long enough. And then it was dripping water, so I had to unscrew everything and put plumber's tape on. plumbers tape is good stuff. use it on your sink pipes (tho turn water off first!)

nice thread. my toilet has been doing the same. spraying water out as it continues to run. ended up just turning the water off on that toilet... thanks for all the advice.

I work at Ferguson Enterprises here in Raleigh, so if you end up needing a plumber, PM me and I will give you the number to a good one... Also, if you want to go all out, replacing the flapper and the flush valve would cost about $15 if you bought the stuff from us, and it is self explanatory to put in... So you could do that too.

Just tighten down the leaking sink connections. If for some reason that doesn't work go to Lowes, get some thread tape, wrap it around the threads, and then tighten it back together. You usually don't need the thread tape for water though.
