on a regular basis (every other week) the skin lining the inside of my mouth peels. Its kinda gross, little white/clear thin sheets of skin, but it doesn't hurt or last long. Its been happing for for a while so im used to it, doesn't seem like a big deal I said something offhand to mom once about it and she said thats usually what happens to people when they are dying and the antibiotic therapy is no longer working. Anyway, it doesn't hurt, doesn't seem like a problem but im not sure if its really normal or good either. Anyone heard of this, had it happen, know if its normal or indicative or something bad?[Edited on October 24, 2007 at 8:39 AM. Reason : And no its not from sucking dick to hard or that i need to keep things out of my mouth. Har har ]

i think i have the same kind of oddity, my dental visits usually involve the cleaner asking if i chew the inside of my cheeks (which i do). i can sometimes scrape shit out too, not painful at all.i don't get 'sheets' though.

It could potentially be the type of dental products you're using. Whitening toothpastes, particularly those with peroxide like properties, will cause the cheek lining to slough every now and again. I had the same issue and switched toothpastes. Now I rarely ever experience it.
10/24/2007 9:00:16 PM
^ yeah when I use whitening toothpastes it does the same thing to me - along with the rest of my mouth - bleh
10/24/2007 9:10:13 PM
^^yeah, me too, but it's usually the inside of my upper lip rather than my cheeks
10/24/2007 9:15:15 PM
the cure is in my peniscome get it out
10/24/2007 9:29:57 PM
For me, it was always the inside of my cheeks. Only on rare occasions did it happen towards the front of my mouth. I think the reason for that is that I'm hardcore about keeping my back teeth cavity free since they're extra groovy. I've been really fortunate over the years when it comes to oral health. The peeling thing has been the only real concern...and that was my toothpaste.
10/24/2007 10:11:02 PM
happens regularly if you use whitening products...happens a lot when using the Listerine (sp?) whitening stuff, or with whitening tooth pastes.
10/24/2007 10:18:11 PM
that happens to me when I eat something really sour/acidic. Do you drink a lot of OJ or eat sour candy or anything like that?
10/25/2007 11:52:01 AM
I drink OJ daily and use whitening toothpaste. That must be my reason.

holy shit this is crazy the same thing happens to me and I keep meaning to make a thread about it.For the past few months, every time I brush my teeth, I have skin peel out from inside of my cheeks.

FYI, I changed from Crest Whitening Expressions toothpaste to a different kind of Crest and the skin peeling has decreased dramatically. So if anyone uses Crest Whitening Expressions and it really bothers you, you might want to switch.

I have these really sour morning sickness candies that I use whenever I feel nauseated and if I hold the candy on one side of my cheek, I usually end up with the skin peeling.Cheek chewing will also do the job. If it is a chronic problem, you can end up with oral cancer from repeated 'injury' to the area.
12/13/2007 3:18:39 PM
^ really? oh shit. *chews on her check as a nervous habit , never to the point of y'know making it bleed but does do it*
12/13/2007 3:22:29 PM
Yup. Chronic cheek biting causes leukoplakia, white patches on the cheeks and tongue. While they are generally harmless, sometimes thay turn pre-cancerous, etc.

Due to the physical abuse from chewing food and saliva, the reproduction rate of the cells in your mouth is many times greater than the average cell in your body. Don't worry about it.

Just recently I've started chewing on my cheeks in my sleep. I'll wake up and have my teeth clamped still and I notice I'm biting REALLY hard. I have permanent indentations on them now. How do I stop this since it's a new thing?omgz

liberally
12/16/2007 9:32:24 PM
do you chew a lot of cinnamon gum? some people complain that they get this from chewing cinnamon gum. its unlikely to be thrush (though not impossible i suppose) as it usually isn't peeling of the cheeks but a white overgrowth on the tongue and throat typically and usually only in the immunocompromised.
12/17/2007 5:43:49 PM
So how's that cheesy patch inside your mouth coming along, Jen? Just askin'. . . .
