What FLS have you taken so far? 201,202,208? Any grammar/composition?

I ended up with a Spanish minor before it was all over. I'd say that the instructor matters more than the actual course itself. I took 300, 304, and 308. I'm not sure what the course numbers are now, but I didn't like 304 because the instructor was absolutely stuck on poems about swans. The answer to every question in class was "ideal beauty" or the "ideal woman." It was a waste of time. If you are fluent and looking to hone your pronunciation skills I'd take 308. Make sure to do the business Spanish thing.

I'm finishing up my spanish minor in the spring with FLS 300. I'm taking it with Block, so if anyone has any suggestions on that, I'd love to hear them.I've taken FLS 110, 201, 202, 208, 309 and 310.

Like Jbtilley said, it more depends on the instructors you have. I didn't like Jaimes or Vilches. Vilches is nice, but she's not a "teacher." She just kind of expects you to know it without telling you what you should know. I really liked Garrigan, I had her for 316 and 310. She is hard with 316, teaches it like a grad level class, but you'll get a ton out of it. She's really laid back, we even went to Mitch's for extra credit (one of the guys had to make up a presentation, and she didn't have a class reserved). I would avoid 302 if you don't have to take it (I believe Wright is the only teacher for that). But if you do end up choosing it, it's not that bad, just a bunch of reading. My advice is to look at teachers and pick from there, rather than based on the subject.

Never take a class with Garrigan. For the love of god, avoid Shelly Garrigan. You have to work so bloody hard for a shitty 3 hour class, it's unbelievable. Take advanced grammar and avoid advanced composition

My suggestion would be to get 310 out of the way early. I've been stuck trying to fit 310 in to my schedule for the past few semesters, so I haven't been able to progress in my minor at all. (Although I'm also trying to overlap requirements, and all of the classes I need require 310)Secondly, I highly recommend Darhower. He isn't a morning person, so he only does afternoon/night classes... but I thoroughly enjoyed his classes. He started the UPR chat sessions @ NCSU. I took 202 & 308 with him.
