well, during that time, i purchased a number of drives from seagate (around the neighborhood of 50 or so)...after about 2-3 years, i had two fail on me while the rest were/are fine...i like seagatei'm wondering if i got the emails because of the RMAs i sent in a few years back[Edited on October 22, 2007 at 5:42 PM. Actually I was part of a class action against Western Digital about that very same thing, ended up getting some free WD Backup/Recovery software out of itwhatever

I always thought it had something to do with the manufactures assuming a GB was 10^9 Bytes when it is really 2^30, that’s about a seven percent error.

^ well, they knew very well what the difference was, and i'm pretty sure that in recent years they put fine print on the box...while i've never actually felt cheated, it IS a bit sketchy that manufacturers continued to advertise the incorrect (from a technical understanding) capacity
