10/22/2007 6:00:24 PM
there's no shadows because of the camera flash, the shadows are directly behind everyone such that they can't be seen from the camera's angleGOSH
10/22/2007 6:04:23 PM
ahaha I know who took that picture(<------)
10/22/2007 6:05:19 PM
Oh god. This shit again. Those crazy bastards slept in the open in freezing temps in the mtns instead of using their oh-so-special tarp<3
10/22/2007 6:15:35 PM
well it wasn't raining, we didn't really need the tarp! and we did use it the 1st night btw XTNE I heard you and Matt didn't have sleeping pads ... that's why you were so cold!!
10/22/2007 6:24:45 PM
nah, that's why we weren't so cold. We were so goddamn cold because matt swore up and down those sleeping bags would be adequate, and wouldn't let me bring any other blankets. Being on the ground wasn't the problem in the least. It was all the radiated heat. I was putting towels, extra clothes, pillows - anything I could use to retain heat - on top of the sleeping bag. Slept in jeans, three shirts, and a jacket. ...But he's the one who wound up with acute bronchitis. I was just tired for a day or two. I suspect he'll listen to me next time.[Edited on October 22, 2007 at 6:44 PM. Reason : def doesn't help that our tent is not a cold-weather tent, either]
10/22/2007 6:43:09 PM
no sleeping mats is* the reason you were cold - you lose a lot of body warmth by laying straight on the ground, versus even a 1 inch pad.insulating yourself from the ground is imperative to retaining body heat, don't you ever watch survivor man, GOD!!1]]
10/22/2007 6:45:08 PM
HAI Nerdchicki think i saw you sitting in talley today.
10/22/2007 6:51:05 PM
you didn't, I wasn't in Talley today maybe I have a doppleganger
10/22/2007 6:54:41 PM
btw XSMP and Nerdchick are CORRECT about the sleeping pad!! you lose just as much heat to the ground as to the air!even the most fanatical ultralight backpackers use a sleeping pad in cold weather. for realz a foam thermarest is like $20 and will increase your comfort dramatically.
10/22/2007 7:03:12 PM
Eh. If yall say so. The only parts of my body that were warm were those I was laying on. I understand who the ground will steal your warmth, but you'll have a hard time selling to me that it was the ground causing the majority of my problems when my bottom half was relatively toasty (warm to the touch, even), while the skin on the top of my body was damn cold.[Edited on October 22, 2007 at 7:07 PM. Reason : meanwhile, matt wasn't even cold. fucker.]
10/22/2007 7:06:51 PM
it's pretty hard to camp outside in this time of year without another person in the sleeping bag with you. I went a couple of weeks ago- fucking freezing by myself - i had on long johns under my jeans and lord knows like 5 shirts- killer socks and was very chilly still.
10/22/2007 7:11:14 PM
all i know is that my stove won the boil offthe tarp is fucking titties^hot bottle of water in your sleeping bag (hottubin)....but yeah, haveing a female to grope/snuggle is fuckin boss having all those clothes on didnt help either..prolly made things worse[Edited on October 22, 2007 at 7:16 PM. Reason : d]
10/22/2007 7:12:32 PM
...I actually wanna go again. Would probably be going this weekend if zorthage didn't have bronchitis. There was something masochistically gratifying about rolling out of bed at 30F at 8am, bundled up like a mummy, and getting a fire going just to get warm and have some hot chocolate. Fuck breakfast. Some tea or hot chocolate is where it's at....Points if you have someone else doing that while you get the first trip to the bathroom ^definitely doing the hot water bottle business next time.
10/22/2007 7:14:20 PM
where DID the rest of your arms go?!?! [Edited on October 22, 2007 at 7:17 PM. Reason : i want to go on the next camping trip!]

what the hellwhere'd my post goand why is it better to wear no clothes?[Edited on October 25, 2007 at 12:09 PM. Reason : lk]
10/25/2007 12:08:50 PM
i deleted that mess of a postand its better to wear less clothes or nothing b/c of the moisture that is trapped in the fibers will cool you off instead of warm you up
10/25/2007 12:13:20 PM
10/25/2007 12:58:44 PM
I don't buy the idea that wearing more clothes makes you colder. I mean, WTF man? I've always been warmer when wearing more clothes to bed
10/25/2007 3:14:56 PM
10/25/2007 3:16:54 PM
I always thought that the important thing was to wear clothing like wool or polypropylene that wicks sweat from your skinrather than clothing like cotton or cotton blends that hold sweat next to your skin
