ok so i took my driver side axle out and well there is no grease in the boot that connects to the half shaft. there are a couple of holes and grease all over the back of the motor and stuff. im thinking this will solve my "i think its the axle" problem so i kinda wanna do it once.im debating on whether or not i should add grease to the boot from the holes that are already in there and then silicone it up.orshoud i just replace the axle.surely i would like to do it the cheapest way, but im not sure how much damage there is in the axle boot. that boot has more play than kid-n-play... so who knows whats been going on.

Pull and swap. No questions about it.Trying to repair a boot is like trying to stop your diarrhea with a fucking cork. You might keep things contained for a short period of time but after a while, your patch up job is gonna fail, and there will be shit everywhere.I'd rather spend 70 bux for a reman axle and just flat out not have to fuck with it again. Is money THAT tight for you?

no i just have grease and stuff readily accessible.hmm, actually i think i got this axle from autozone. and i dont know, it may just be under warranty.the thing is in fairly good shape. not sure how long ago it was when i got it. ill give it a try to see if i can get it covered.

replace the grease with jb weld, it wont come out of there, even with a cracked boot
10/22/2007 3:43:06 PM
Better yet, just weld it solid.
10/22/2007 4:06:58 PM
get slowblack to weld it!

^ the grease would stick it together better than his welds

gotta go with replace it also. reman. axles are just so cheap now, it's not worth the effort of trying to repair. i've used those quick boots with some silicone before, but only with minor success and only when i couldn't find a reman. axle.definitely check the warranty. a lot of them have good ones, or one of those limited lifetime warrantys. which almost never applies, but most az/aa guys don't know any better.

autozone has one for $50 or $60. and comes with warranty.hell, even if the one i have now doesnt have the warranty, its still a good price.

i took in a junkyard water pump that had an autozone part # stamped on it one time and got a free replacement

well knowing you and knowing hondas and how good you are at them. hell if you slap gease in it and put back together and it doesnt work. hell you have 45 min max in it with packing the grease and shit. you and i know it doesnt take much time to swap an axle in a honda. only doing this if the money is an issue though. normally its R and R [Edited on October 23, 2007 at 9:59 PM.
