10/22/2007 12:46:07 AM
whitlock has always been a race baiter
10/22/2007 12:47:23 AM
Haha how true most of that is.I cannot believe that a black writer would say most of those things and actually mean it.
10/22/2007 12:48:38 AM
^imagine the shit storm if a white writer wrote that.....
10/22/2007 12:51:29 AM
I've always liked whitlock, I could see some saying this sort of thing is mostly just an attention gathering thing but I get the general feeling he means it and hes a nice sensible median between the "angry black man" of steven a. smith and the "bojanglin'" stuart scott

Allow me to say bulls***.Owners only care about one thing - making money. The best way to make money is to win games which draws fan interest. If guys like Chad Johnson are upending their coaches, but are still winning games, than the owner will probably fire the coach. So if rosters are whiter, than what that means is that the white guys are better football players than the black guys. Wes Welker is white, is a receiver, and is wicked fast.I hate the whole "woe is me" culture that people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson portray blacks to be as much as the next guy, but Chad Johnson does not represent all NFL black football players, just as Jeremy Shockey's comments toward Tom Coughlin last year is not representative of whites. People are individuals. They do not belong to a group, regardless of their race or family or where they're from. So Whitlock in that sense is a dumbass if he thinks the shenanigans of Michael Vick reflect badly on some 16-year-old black quarterback in high school.[Edited on October 22, 2007 at 12:57 AM. I agree with this article for the most partMan, I must really hate black people!
10/22/2007 1:08:21 AM
i'd have to agree with ^^, 1. NFL owners will draw a line as far as bad behavior goes but that only excludes a small minority of players, the owners follow the $, & fans continue to buy chad johnson jerseys so he will stay 2. the % of black athletes that cause trouble is far too small to seriously worry about, but if you compare that to the % of whites you'd think differently, but still its all about the $so it conclusion its all about the $, fans have the $, so its all about the fans and they like most of these guys[Edited on October 22, 2007 at 1:15 AM. that's what every article he writes is about.
10/22/2007 1:34:48 AM
the article doesn't apply to black players in general. it is saying that the hip hop culture is destroying the team mentality of the sport and that black players are the dominant group that have the "hip hop" mentality. (i'm sure people on this board can find plenty of examples of white athletes that have the same mentality)i interpret the "hip hop" mentality as it is referenced in the article as being selfish, stubborn, argumentative/whiny and having a big mouth. this is actually why i was glad to be rid of keyshawn, he had a big mouth and was stubborn. there were a few blurbs in the charlotte.com blogs after he was let go about him getting on a lot of players nerves in the locker room( i thought the panthers were classy to keep this under wraps until he was gone). we let him go before his "cancer" infected the rest of the locker room.i think it is proven that teams dont win superbowls due to 1 or 2 phenomenal players. teams with chemistry go farther than those without. u can argue that a single player changed the outcome of a game, but w/o the other 10 guys on the field buying into the team mentality, those great things could not have been accomplished.*disclaimer: i am not saying every player listed in the article has all the items i listed as my definition of the "hip hop" mentality. i am saying they might have one or more of those things that can be detrimental to the team chemistry.

yeah, im sure the patriots wouldn't miss Randy Moss, Stallworth, Asante Samuel, & Harrison to name a few...Im not as familiar with the writer as some of you are, but he just seems like a media attention whore. He is using the antics of 2 individuals to generalize a larger group of PROFESSIONALS. I wonder what this guy would think about Jeremy Shockey and his antics...
10/22/2007 10:33:46 AM
^ he did not say "all black people"and i'm sure he's not a fan of jeremy shockey.
