I'm thinking of taking it in the Spring for just fun before I graduate. Anyone here taken it and can tell me what the class deals with, outside of the description on reg/rec. Class is taught by Earnshaw, ever heard of him?

I took this over the summer. I'm not sure there there was a way to not get an A. That being said the class was great. Earnshaw is one of the most reasonable people you will ever meet and the class itself is very interesting. I would definitely recommend it.

Definitely worth taking. Basically discuss technological failures throughout history and how they could have been prevented(tacoma narrows, exxon valdez, TMI, chernobyl, dams, etc). The tests are kinda picky and you need to know what caused the problem, what was done, and how it could have been prevented. The book is a must have because some of the material on the tests weren't necessarily covered in class. I think we had a small writing assignment and then a group project on a disaster of our choice. Other than that, just go to class and you're pretty much guaranteed an A.

The class is awesome and Dr. Earnshaw is awesome. Thats all you need to know.

Is it better to take this in the class room or arranged? for credit only? I want to take sts 322 for fun, but it interferes with other classes?

If you are gonna take it for fun, then I def wouldn't take it with the online version. You would be just as far ahead to just read the book at your own pace and not worry about the class.

Ended up registering for the course distance ed. The classroom section conflicted with a course I have to take. Ah well.
