It's been all over the paper for more than a weekhttp://www.newsobserver.com/weather/drought/story/739610.htmlDurham had 69 days left as of Tuesday

^ It isn't going to add much. It was mentioned we need 2 feet to completely erase the drought, and I think we are something like 12-15 inches below average for the year to this point. A decent class 3 hurricane will usually dump in the 5" range if that gives you perspective on how much we need. This is a fun onehttp://www.newsobserver.com/weather/drought/story/742218.htmlHere is what I was looking for with my first post]

don't do laundry until you have a full load...mix colors and whites, just wash them with cold water so the colors don't bleed.
10/19/2007 9:39:19 AM
also, if you are going to use your large appliances...use them after 9pm to conserve energy which conserves water
10/19/2007 9:41:55 AM
and for showers, you can install one of those water conservation shower heads...it's like a mist, but it gets you just as wet.when heating up water, put it on a low stream and not a fast hard stream. it will heat up just the same.if you have a water to air a/c...turn off your ac on cooler nights and open those windows!stop using the garbage disposal in your sink--it requires a lot of water to dispose of the food. make a compost pile instead (which is a benefit in itself for the soil!)in addition, if you start using paper plates and cups (non glossy and no prints on them though, just plain old paper plates) you can put these in your compost pile which will save on water needed to do dishes. if you're going to take a bath, go ahead and plug the drain as you fill the tub...once the water gets hot, it will heat up the amount of cold that first gets put in the tub basin.[Edited on October 19, 2007 at 9:52 AM. In 98 days I will no longer be a Raleigh resident. That said, tdub needs to have a showering party.
10/19/2007 10:00:04 AM
ooooooooooooooooo this water feels sooooooooo goooooooooood
10/19/2007 10:05:32 AM
how does cary have so much water???
10/19/2007 10:05:37 AM
Raleigh industries waste millions of gallons every day. Even the fire department still lets the fire hydrants run all day. I'll be damned if I'm going to cut back on the 10 gallons a day I use.
10/19/2007 10:07:47 AM
it gets it water from a different source than raleigh
10/19/2007 10:07:53 AM
Cary get's it's water from Jordan
10/19/2007 10:15:42 AM
i get my water from bottled dew from leaves in south american rain forrests.PS find a bath buddy, conserve water.
10/19/2007 10:16:39 AM
metro atlanta only has 81 days left
10/19/2007 10:36:22 AM
i think all of that crap is just the media trying to get people all riled up about the water supply.look at the graphic for the water in cary. they're almost full and they've only got 206 days.it's all sensationalist bullshit.
10/19/2007 10:38:00 AM
oh i didnt see durhamwatch out for people playing the race card when durham runs out and cary still has waterthat or riots
10/19/2007 10:40:03 AM
i wish people would conserve water before conditions get like they are now

sigh...I miss Egypt. One thing we'll never run out of is water and sand.
10/19/2007 10:50:36 AM
it probably will, however, Oct-Dec is generally our lowest quarter for rain as it is, which is why they are worried I believe[Edited on October 19, 2007 at 10:51 AM. Reason : ]

It's exactly that type of head in the sand reasoning that gets people fucked up.First of all, who is saying cary "only" has 206 days left in the media? It is included in that graphic because it's the newsandobserver covering the triangle you idiot. It's just information. Don't you think 100,000 residents would be a little interested about their water supply when they are reading Raleigh with 98 days and Durham with 69 days. Hmmm, why don't they list Cary? What's going on here.Furthermore, "it WILL rain before then. we're not gonna die, the world is not ending."You mean, like, it HAS rained several days a week every week this summer like it has historically? You mean, just like 10-20 years ago winters were colder and typically had one or two good snows? Don't be a complete and total idiot. We have been in a particularly nasty drought, there is no reason to think it will suddenly start raining in time to assuage the water supply crisis.
10/19/2007 10:54:08 AM
jesus y'all are densei was being fucking sarcastic. i'm not arguing with you if you're gonna be this dumb.
10/19/2007 10:55:35 AM
its easy to be 'dense' when there wasnt really any hint of sarcasm in the original post
10/19/2007 10:57:35 AM
i explained in my 2nd post though. if you missed that then it's your fault.and i wasn't talking to you

10/19/2007 10:59:36 AM
did you read the 2nd post??b/c it doesn't sound like you did...are we just gonna go back and forth on this same point that i didn't convey enough sarcasm the first time, but cleared it up in the 2nd post, but you didn't read it so you're still angry? b/c i quit[Edited on October 19, 2007 at 11:01 AM. I read it all you dipshitYou think the media is sensationalizing the water issueAnd you used the Cary number as some evidence of thisWhich rests on the idea that people should be concerned about the Cary number (they shouldn't, yet)Completely ignoring the Raleigh and Durham numbers that they should be worried aboutWhich are indeed critical. Two months isn't shit. And the fact that you take it lightly is really really sad and shortsighted.
10/19/2007 11:06:35 AM
He might as well take it lightly, there's nothing he can do about it. I don't lose sleep over the exhaust from my car because I know it's insignificant compared to the shit spewing from factories.Nothing short of taxing the hell out of water for heavy consumers will really help this.
10/19/2007 11:15:50 AM
tell all the illegal mexicans to leaveschools will be no longer over crowded and there will be way less water used on a daily basis
10/19/2007 11:20:39 AM
From what the people I know that live in both towns tell me I think Cary charges about three times the Raleigh rate for the same water usage.^lol. All the country's, state's, county's, city's, and even person problems would be solved if the Mexicans would just go back. [Edited on October 19, 2007 at 11:22 AM. Reason : -]

Im not trying to say we shouldnt conserve, but the sky is not falling. They 'days' left number assumes current utilization (I believe) and assumes NO RAIN. Thats going to be really surprising if we get no rain. we have been through this before, as recently as 3 or 4 years ago. The sky didnt fall then, and it wont today. Take measures to reduce your water useage (I stopped watering my lawn months ago), and dont worry about it.
10/19/2007 11:22:15 AM
lol, its all the mexicans fault...
10/19/2007 11:23:24 AM
10/19/2007 11:27:17 AM
Mexicans don't take baths anyway, so they aren't affecting it.
10/19/2007 11:28:45 AM
My husband and I just hooked up one of our 2 55-gal rain barrels last weekend when we were installing our gutters. That little bit of rain that we got yesterday filled up the entire barrel. I can't wait to finish the gutters so that we have 110 gallons of water at our disposal. Rain barrels ftw.
10/19/2007 11:34:49 AM
I need to get one of those...
10/19/2007 11:38:27 AM
^ We bought our rain barrels from a guy who makes them, but I know that you can make your own. My friend sent me this link with directions before she knew that we had bought ours ready-made: http://www.cwp.org/Community_Watersheds/brochure.pdf
