i sold you a working computer without an OS...i specifically stated this in the craigslist post, and we both talked about it when you picked up the damn computer...it's not MY fault you don't have a copy of windows, and so you are not getting a refundunfortunately, you know where i live and you're of spanish/hispanic origin [Edited on October 11, 2007 at 12:49 PM. honestly i'd rather sell to wolfwebbers than craigslisters...CL is just so sketch now a days
10/11/2007 12:51:56 PM
yeah, but you tend to get closer to what something is worth from CLers than tdubbers...at the risk of your life, i suppose

i sold a laptop on craigslist about 2 months ago....I STILL GET QUESTIONS FROM THE GUY VIA THE PHONE ASKING HOW TO WATCH DOWNLOADED MOVIES AND SHIT.I'd be more pissed if I hadn't made so much money off of him.

just tell him you don't do free tech support now and to quit harassing you - that he's gotten his free tech support, and is welcome to pay you.

by the wayfor as long as i can remember, computers have been thought of as something that works right "out of the box" -- maybe this sale was originally geared toward the average computer user (juror) who would expect the computer to WORK when he bought it.i realize you were selling it AS IS (hopefully to someone else who deals in computers) -- but its your responsibility as a decent human to NOT sell the product to someone who can't/doesn't understand how to use it AS IS. you state that you explained it multiple times, including at the time of sale... if thats true, this wouldnt be happening right now. he did not understand, and you are taking advantage of him. you should either find a copy of XP for him (which won't cost you shit), or you should refund the money and put it back for sale to someone who can actually use it in the condition you sold it. as for calling him an idiot, i think you've already stated who the bigger idiot is... the guy running the quick buck con out of his own home. there's a lot more to whether or not youre an idiot than fucking computer literacy[Edited on October 11, 2007 at 1:15 PM. home-built...but i DO sell a lot of old computer equipment and i'm not stupid...i tested everything before i sold it...he says his copy of windows tells him the drive has bad sectors, even though seagate's seatools says it's just fine...i'll trust my seatools report over his claims any dayalso, who knows what these people do once they get it...he could have dropped it for all i know...but i sell enough stuff that it's in my best interests to be honest, and i've offered to swap out the drive for an almost brand-new slim seagate 7200.10 series (perpendicular recording)...that's already more than i'd usually do[Edited on October 11, 2007 at 1:23 PM. ok now the story is changing, i thought he didnt have access to an OS. too much background that i dont know about to be making this judgement. as it was stated in the first post, you were wrong... but with all the info thats come out since, who knows. lets see how long i can follow before i tire.

the story's changing..1st it was like: quag sold him a good system without an OS, and this guy didnt listen to quage when he was told this.now its like: he accepted the NO OS stuff, tried to install his own, and got disc errors.big difference.

no, we specifically went over it...just as y'all pointed out, most computers DO come with an OS, but i'm certainly not going to buy a copy to put on there, and i'm certainly not going to put an illegal copy on there and then sell it...but i made VERY sure he knew it didn't have an OS and he said that was fine, he had his own and he'd install it himselfwe good so far? nothing shady? the computer was up and running winxp with the EXACT same hardware just the day beforeso he contacts me after two days and says that the drive is bad...okay, i checked all of that beforehand and ran seatools on it to make sure...nothing came back, the drive is just over a year old, and it's still well within warranty...so if the drive's bad, fine, i've already offered to exchange it for an almost brand new one, one that's way better than the drive that he originally paid for...he said that he wants his money back unless i install the OS for him to prove it works...hell if i'm going to let this dude into my house and set up the computer for him...i mean, i DO understand where he's coming from, but at what point is he supposed to man up and realize that buying something AS IS means exactly that - i've offered to take care of the supposed hardware problem, why should i install his pirate copy of xp on his machine for him, too? other than not to get stabbed, i mean...surely no one believe i owe this to him?
