The Harris Teeter on Falls of Neuse has them for $0.99. They're not all that big but they're not bad for the start of the season.

Don't take this deal for granate! Ba dum cha!
10/9/2007 11:11:40 PM
w00t!Pomegranate season is my favorite. I love the HUGE ones. I think last year I spent ~$30 on them.I found out (from http://www.pomwonderful.com/ ) that you can keep the seeds for up to a year, frozen, and keep the pomegranates themselves in the fridge for up to a month. This year I'll probably spent ~$50-$75 on them.I seriously love them that much.http://www.pomwonderful.com/Best pomegranates ... ever.

my local starbucks is now stocking donates with pomegranate jamhaven't tried them yet
10/10/2007 7:03:17 AM
Also, Wal-Mart now has Northland 100% pomegranate juice, 32 oz. for 3.88. It's not cheap but it beats everything else I've seen so far.
10/10/2007 7:09:01 AM
wait for teeters savings specials. if i remember correctly last year they had 2 for (a good deal).still. $.99 for one isnt bad
10/10/2007 7:31:35 AM
I am eating pomegranate flavored jelly bellies right now ....I love me some fresh blueberry/pom juice too...High in antioxidants
10/10/2007 8:58:58 AM
It's important that you learn the right way to eat them though, or you make a hell of a mess. I made a few messes before I learned the underwater trick.
10/10/2007 9:01:45 AM
the hariss teeter by falls and durant??I will be going today
10/10/2007 9:15:09 AM
^^ Plz explain
10/10/2007 12:17:10 PM
^i agree
10/10/2007 12:18:49 PM
http://www.pomwonderful.com/how_to_open.htmlI haven't done it yet but I'm assuming that's what is meant. How quickly can you open one using that method. Usually takes me ~30 minutes to get all the juice sacs out of a large pomegranate if I do it normally (without squishing any of them).
10/10/2007 12:55:22 PM
you cut the top off, you find where those ridges are and cut down them, and you seperate it under water.if you have skills you can do it without being under water
10/10/2007 1:06:13 PM
Basically the healthiest fruit out there.(backed by research)
10/12/2007 6:46:22 AM
i honestly don't think i've ever eaten a pomegranate. i've drank the juice but never ate the fruit. is it as good?? OR BETTER??
10/12/2007 4:36:17 PM
there is a big difference between the juice and the fruit. mianly because each seed has a tiny bit of juice in, where as the juice already has it.its just a good food to munch on.
10/12/2007 4:46:42 PM
10/12/2007 6:41:53 PM
I usually get all the juice sacs out, then put them in a bowl to eat with a spoon.
10/12/2007 8:07:02 PM
STFUBUY AN AD ALREADY
10/12/2007 8:13:10 PM
Just an FYI for those that have not eaten one before. It will take you a good amount of time to remove all the seed sacs, like 15 minutes. The underwater method prevents coating yourself and your environment with hundreds of small pink stains from bursting seed sacs. Also, each sac has a seed in it that is about the size of a small grain of rice. You can eat it (the extra fiber is good for you) and it is similar in taste and texture to a pumpkin seed.
10/13/2007 11:17:43 AM
I had one today -- still not quite peak season but it was acceptable for the time being.
10/13/2007 7:53:39 PM
Meh... overrated fruit. Difficult to eat, tastes kind of like a bland cranberry, and stains pretty bad.
10/13/2007 8:27:26 PM
The healthiest fruit.Yes, but worth it.You haven't tasted a good one then.Does stain, but can take precautions.
10/13/2007 8:44:35 PM
oh slaves to marketing, these wont do anything more than what eating somewhat healhty would in the first place. But as an aside they do taste good.
10/13/2007 10:24:56 PM
Educate yourself and stop blabbering like an idiot. All fruits are identical in their health value. All humans are identical inpersonality-wise and physically. All fields of knowledge are equally easy/difficult.All stars are identical. Oh wait, your mother is a nutritionist, right? Well, WTH don't you ask her about ORAC values for different foods, so then you can compare the ORAC level of pomegranates with that of other fruits and vegetables.
10/13/2007 11:02:02 PM
wow, people can be douches about just about anythingfruit? YOU DON'T KNOW FRUIT LIKE I KNOW FRUIT SON. I WAS RAISED BY FRUIT.
10/13/2007 11:19:39 PM
that first sentence is quite rich coming from you, one of the biggest assholes on this site.so now fruit is inconsequential and unimportant? why don't you tell that to the thousands of hardcore researchers studying fruit all over the world for their health and disease-fighting properties? physics and astronomy are not the only "wow" or important fields.false knowledge has to be shown as false to the masses. that is everybody's duty.btw, his mother really is a nutritionist, so get off my nuts.[Edited on October 13, 2007 at 11:32 PM. Update: Wal-Mart on New Hope just off Falls of Neuse (or Wake Forest) has some a little bigger than the Harris Teeter @ Falls Pointe for $1.50. Thanks CharlesHF for the info on keeping the seeds frozen, I didn't know that. And FWIW, pomegranates do seems to be better for you than other fruits, webmd has some good stuff on them http://www.webmd.com/search/search_results/default.aspx?query=pomegranates&sourceType=undefined

10/16/2007 7:12:53 PM
Mmmmm pomegranates. I remember eating these from the time I could walk. My dad would crack one open and he'd do all the work to get all the seeds out, while me and my brothers would nom on the riches.
