Price is $650.
I debated whether to post this here or not, but here goes...

If you want to reach me, email: timothythurber@yahoo.com
I don't read the PMs and stuff...

FREE DELIVERY to the Triangle area on weekends, since I now live in Greenville 5 days a week. The computer can also be seen in Greenville during the week. If you’re pretty serious about it and have already worked things out with me, we can meet in Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Chapel Hill.

This computer was built for me in February, 2007 by a friend (who works as a professional computer nerd for a bank) for use as my main desktop system. I had full intentions of keeping this system for a long time. I started med school in Greenville this Fall, and I had to buy a laptop. I pretty much just use the laptop at this point, so the desktop is for sale. Not in a hurry to sell it, but I’d rather have the money than a computer I don’t use frequently enough.

CASE:

Antec Sonata quiet case with removable filter, black in color. Has three large drive bays, two small drive bays, four 3.5” HDD bays (one is obviously in use), and currently has 3 PCI slots open (one more if you remove the PCI 4-port USB 2.0 card installed in one).

HARDWARE:

Intel P805D Dual Core 2.66GHz processor
Intel D945PSN Motherboard
160GB Western Digital HDD 7200rpm SATA
2GB DDR2 RAM 533MHz
Thermaltake 430W power supply
1st DVD burner: Lite-On Dual-Layer DVD-RW/CD-RW Buner
2nd DVD burner: Sony DVD-RW/CD-RW Burner
NVIDIA 128MB 6600GT video card dual DVI out (can provide a VGA adaptor)
Front-panel dual USB ports, audio in/out and Firewire 400 port
Front-panel flash memory reader (MS+Pro Duo, SD/MMC, SM, CF/MD)
Toshiba floppy drive
Rear panel has 8 USB ports, one firewire 400, network… etc
120mm quiet rear case fan

SOFTWARE/OS:

Windows Vista Home Premium w/OEM code
MS Office Professional 2007 w/OEM code
Nero Burning ROM 7.5.5.1 Full capability
Cyberlink PowerDVD
MS Windows Media Center

This is a nice computer, put together by someone with experience. This is just the computer "box"... no monitor/etc. This thing will burn two DVDs at the same time without killing the computer’s functionality – it is a strong system. Comes with all the discs, the motherboard drivers, the drive bay covers and PCI slot covers that were removed when the drives were installed… etc. You won’t be disappointed. I unplug + spray with endust every month or so (it doesn’t really seem to need it), always use the built-in dust filter. Comes from a non-smoking, non-pets, non-kids house.

I will try to post pics soon, but if you can locate a photo of an Antec Sonata case in the time being, that’s what it looks like…

PLEASE email: timothythurber@gmail.com, please no PMs. Thanks.

...Bidding starts at 10 cents. Reserve is $650. Buy-it-now is $650.

it's on craigslist as well, where I figure I'll probably find a buyer. However, as a previous ncsu student I had to post it up here. Sometimes people are looking for a certain setup - ya never know.

You aren't getting 650 for this, period.

But I'll give you 300.

considering I had a friend at NC State build it for me, I figure there may be some nonbottomfeeders around who are interested. This computer isn't for everybody... the issue is that it's not old enough to massively depreciate enough for most, and most people don't know the difference between this system and a Dell. That's ok though...

the issue is that any computer, especially custom made (as in, lacking a warranty, no matter who built it) depreciates faster than a dell, even if it's better. you aren't going to get 650.

for the average computer user, I agree with you. People generally like the security of knowing that their used computer was made from the cheapest possible components in china where a big name label was slapped on it... but hey, i'm not looking for the average buyer. Maybe you're right and $650 is too much. I guess we'll see what the market dictates... But at $300 I'd just give it to my GF instead.

it's cool, there's admittedly a bit of luck in making any sale. However, I drove from Greenville to Apex and brought it to the guy's house and did like a one-hour demo... and that's probably what really made the sale.

vista was $120 at newegg, Office 2007 pro is $200 with a student discount. All software was legal. I just really didn't need the computer anymore. The new owner is pretty happy with it - runs adobe CS3/etc.
