So this past weekend we had some people over at my house Saturday night. When parking spaces ran out; friends, house mates, and guests began parking at food lion. The past four years I have been at NCSU this has never been an issue and nothing has ever happened. Around 2 am when people were starting to leave one of my friends came to me very upset b.c she thought her car was stolen. I began to hear other people complain, also, this is when I knew I smelled a rat. Sure enough I call Ace Towing and every car that was missing had been towed to there. This is where the problem arises the only signs that mention towing at the FoodLion off of Avent Ferry say something to the extent "Attention Students riding the Wolfline. Park along the outer perimeter. Violators WILL be towed"1. No one who's car was towed was riding the wolfline.2. I would say nearly half the cars towed were not even NCSU students.3. I can understand why they have this policy to prevent people from taking up customer parking but at this point Food Lion was closed. So there is no bullshit that customers have no where to park.4. NOT A SINGLE sign is posted stating "Food Lion Customer Parking Only" or "No Parking After Hours"The only sign posted is the one stated above.5. NO WHERE did they post who was doing the towing so that vehicle owners could recover their vehicles. Just from my experience I guess Ace Towing were the assholes behind it and was able to get a lot of my friends vehicles recovered that night. The next day there was still people looking for their car, two girls I talked to that next afternoon who lived 3 hours away were stuck since they could not figure out where their car got towed too. What is everyone's take on this situation. I think this is extremely dick on FoodLion's party considering my friends and other people living at this house probably spend $1000s each month there on food, beer, and other shit. I know personally I am going to go out of the way to shop at Harris Teeter after this bullshit.
10/8/2007 10:09:42 AM
talk to the food lion manager first. Ace towing may very well have overstepped their bounds with regards to towing.
10/8/2007 10:11:57 AM
Yeah knowing Ace Towing you are probably right. I actually rode along at 3AM with 2 girls who's car got stolen. I told them to keep a level head b.c i wanted to extract some info. The guy may have been lying through his teeth but supposedly the closing manager "called in" to have the cars towed.
10/8/2007 10:13:49 AM
10/8/2007 10:14:32 AM
where were the cars parked? on the outer perimeter or the inner spaces?
10/8/2007 10:14:44 AM
They definately wanted to make a few extra bucks. Harris Teeter has better produce/meats anyways. I NEVER EVER buy Food Lion meat (unless it's the frozen kind). And their produce looks like hand-me downs from another store. But, it may not be Food Lions policy to tow. It could be the property owners (people who lease the buildings) that are enforcing some unknown rule of theirs.
10/8/2007 10:16:41 AM
i was drivin by that way around 1 or so and saw them pull out with a jeep cherokee. the thing was goin bout 30 degrees sideways down the road with the tires not turnin. id love to see it when it got back and had 2 flat front tires and ace has to pay for them

10/8/2007 10:27:32 AM
do you expect ace towing to attempt to call each person who owns the car to determine if they were riding the wolfline or not?if you think that you can expect that then you maybe have an argumentsince no logical person would expect that - everyone will pay - as far as ace knows they were riding the wolfline and didn't read the sign - no you can't expect ace to know the wolfline's exact schedule
10/8/2007 10:31:27 AM
It seems like with a sign like that they would be extremely liable to people that aren't riding the wolfline. And yea, ACE would have to prove that they had reason to tow these people per the regulations given them.
10/8/2007 10:37:20 AM
yea i think they would probably have an easy time gettin out of having to pay since the only signs posted are specific to ncsu students that are riding the wolfline

10/8/2007 11:07:59 AM
Call Mayor Meeker. http://html.wral.com/news/local/story/103506/ Or have all your towed friends file the ORDER FOR RELEASE OF MOTOR VEHICLE HELD FOR LIENhttp://www.nccourts.org/Forms/Documents/367.pdf
10/8/2007 11:14:34 AM
so the night wolfline doesn't run anymore? cause I sure as hell remember one running on nights and weekends, just less frequently.regardless man, they parked in inner spaces. if the sign did say perimeter parking only and they had parked in the perimeter they would've been okay. you just said the only ones towed were the ones in inner spaces.and you can yell at me all you want to, but this is the argument that Ace is gonna give you...so get the practice in.
10/8/2007 11:20:29 AM
Ace towing is in the right, you cnat expect to leave cars at a business afterhours and expect for them to stay there, its obvious you arent a customer at that point.
10/8/2007 11:31:27 AM
10/8/2007 11:31:59 AM
You arent getting your money back, drop it, at least it wasnt your car, these are the risks you run while not parking where you own tht lot.
10/8/2007 11:34:26 AM
^ yet to be determined not that I had any money lost. I just thought this was bullshit and wanted to get T-Dubs opinion cause i had a lot of friends who got the ole screw job.
10/8/2007 11:39:30 AM
you are an idiotand to restate the obvious
10/8/2007 11:43:25 AM
hey man, i'm only getting the "outer perimeter" technicality from your original post

I am trying to collect the names of everyone who's car was Stolen towed under false pretenseselkaybieSo you can honestly say you have NEVER parked somewhere and ended up going to a store a block down or somewhere else.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 11:49 AM. Reason : l]

I can honestly say my car has never, ever, been towed. I've gotten many parking tickets, but never towed. And no I usually park in public spaces/on the street, or in the designated area that I'm attending. I'm not much of a bar hopper. I go to one place and stay there the whole time. Or I'm the DD. I'm pretty much a square.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 11:52 AM. Reason : ]

I have had a friend who got towed from East Village after a night of drinking in which he took a taxi home b.c he did not want to drive drunk. The sign at East Village says "No Parking Overnight; violators will be towed after 11AM the next day"My friend returned for his car at 10:30AM to find it had already been towed.Using elkaybie skankinande and OmarBadu idiotic logic my friend deserved to have his car towed since it was Parked overnight disregarding the actual interpretive statement on the sign that says AFTER 11AM.
10/8/2007 11:53:48 AM
You parked on someone else's parking lot and you weren't their customers. They have every right to have you towed if they wanted to.This is the same thing as if you were parking in someone else's driveway -- I don't need a sign in my own driveway saying that you'll be towed if you and a bunch of friends park in it.
10/8/2007 11:54:16 AM
so let me get this straight...he didnt park on the permeter and got towed and now expects to get money back?thats some idiotic logic right there...
10/8/2007 11:55:43 AM
no I would've pitched a fit about that.AGAIN--I'm basing MY argument on the pretense that YOU said there was an okay to park in the OUTER PERIMETER SPACES and the cars towed were in INNER SPACES. You can't expect a towing company to know which cars belong to students and using or not using the wolfline. Those cars were towed on the parking spot alone IF that's what the sign says. Which now you aren't sure of. If it doesn't say that then I retract my WHOLE argument. I will bow down and say, YES...YOU WERE RIGHT, TAKE THOSE ACE FUCKERS DOWN.
10/8/2007 11:57:37 AM
Well your driveway is private property. FoodLion is a public venue. If you visit any of the stores along Hillsbourgh i.e ManMur, any of the banks, etc all the stores have specific signs "Parking for ManMur Barber shop Only"therefore if you park there and walk to the library then it is your own fault for being towed and it specifically stated with the name and number of the towing company at the bottom of the sign.
10/8/2007 11:57:38 AM
Please explain to me how FoodLion is a public venue. Last time I checked it wasn't a branch of the government.
10/8/2007 12:00:16 PM
aiyiyi...i'm done here. good luck though!
10/8/2007 12:01:58 PM
10/8/2007 12:03:45 PM
No shit, Food Lion is its own entity and can determine the parking at their own discretion.
10/8/2007 12:05:26 PM
As a business, FoodLion has to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, thus the handicapped spaces. Plus it wouldn't be good business to not have handicapped spaces, yes?Your house, as a private residence, does not have to comply with the ADA.
10/8/2007 12:07:39 PM
This is not quite as shitty as buying a townhouse and then getting towed from your own fucking driveway.
10/8/2007 12:09:54 PM
^ Str8BacardiL wins this thread.
10/8/2007 12:10:33 PM
I seriously am dumbfounded that some of you actually defend Food Lion who maliciously towed cars from their lot at a time not impacting customer parking requirements or without a clearly worded Warning of the business's towing practices.Even the shady apartment complexes that are complete cock-suckers about towing, where residents actually are impacted when non-residents park in their parking spaces, have a CLEAR and SPECIFIC sign such as "Visitors parking in guest spaces only; others will be towed"not a sign that reads"Attention party-goes park in visitor spaces only; others will be towed"oh shit i came over to watch a movie with a friend not attend a party and my car got towed doh! This is the basically the logic the "food lion was in the right" are arguing.
10/8/2007 12:16:28 PM
No, the logic is that it's THEIR parking lot, they can do with it what they wish.Stop your "it's all about me" attitude and realize that you weren't screwed over. You parked on someone else's property, they towed you. Simple as that.
10/8/2007 12:17:59 PM
So if I park in the Food Lion parking to shop at 5pm and the manager who after a rough day decides vent his anger by throwing a shopping cart through my windshield, their is nothing I can do b.c I am parked on their property????[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 12:20 PM. Reason : l]
