I bet that record was mastered from a digital recording, defeating the point of having a record in the first place. Records are only unique for stuff that was done all analog from back in the days.

i got a nice old panasonic record player at goodwill for $10, which normally sold for $150...just had to replace the needle. best buy ive ever gotten from that place.

You will likely also need to get a preamp if your amp doesn't have a built in set of phono jacks.

^if she just gets a turn table yes. but its not uncommon for thrift stores like goodwill to have a complete record player or a mini stereo with some tape decks on the front and a turn table on the top.

yeah i guess thats a good point, she might have to go garage sailing, sometimes people sell a turn table and an amplifier/reciever made to go with it all at once. Another advantage of that approach is that those things have a certain look and feel to them you can't get anymore, the ones with a brushed steel box, back lit needle readouts and heavy metal dials. And the ones I'm thinking of were so well built they usually still work.

just go to best buy and get the sony pslx 250. i have one for my LP collection.
