Does anyone around Raleigh have an 03 or 04 Cobra with aftermarket exhaust on it? I would like to be able to hear some different sounds before I buy something for my car. I am looking to get headers, mid-pipe, and exhaust. Does anyone have any suggestions on what combination to go with. (shorty vs long tubes, cats vs no cats, etc.) Also, I have a clunking noise on my car. I know the Cobras have a problem with the IRS, but I'm not sure if this is coming from that or not. It sounds like it could be coming from the front of the car also. If anyone could maybe look at my car or give me some ideas that would be nice.Thanks.

IRS Cobras are notorious for haveing "the clunk". Its just slop in the IRS between the differential and the halfshafts. you usually hear it when shifting gears or putting it in gear. It was very noticable on the 99s(my car) but got better as the years went on. a note on the headers... 03/04 cobras have different shape ports on the heads than 99/01s. Some compaines just make a "best fit" header and advertise it as 99-04 cobra headers. I would stay away from these. try to pick a header thats been made for your car. also be aware that some headers will allow you to take the transmission out of the car without taking the headers off while some you have to loosen or even take the headers off to take the tranny out.midepipes are pretty much all the same. Choose based on your sound preference. H gives the traditional deep rumble of a muscle car. X pipes give more of a raspy exotic sound(as exotic as a mustang gets anyways).Mufflers... chambered mufflers again give you that deep muscle car sound but rob you of more horsepower. Straight through mufflers (magnaflow, bassani, etc...) yeild more power but again give you a higher pitched more exotic sound. This is my post for this year, enjoy.

bassani. get a pulley and a good tune on that thing too, it'll be a whole new car.

We put an exhaust on a customer's cobra a month or so ago.. sounded incredible.. I can't remember for the life of me what combo he had, though.

imo, any v8 mustangs are some of the best sounding cars ever with aftermarket exhaust.

^agreed.

10/7/2007 6:09:54 PM
no, his sounds closer to some rocks being shaken around in can.
10/7/2007 8:27:33 PM

where is this shop?
10/8/2007 2:09:30 PM
off of new bern ave.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 2:27 PM. Reason : i will try to get some pics, but they're kind of secretive about what they're working on.]
10/8/2007 2:26:43 PM
there's a shop beside slowback that builds mustangs but they actually use a good looking body style (60's/70's). fox body mustangs look like civics on steroids, absolutely no creative design whatsoever.
10/8/2007 2:34:51 PM
you dont need design creativity when you can lift the front wheels off the ground.

10/8/2007 3:13:02 PM
hell nah... plenty of leaf spring cars out there totin the fronts.

10/8/2007 5:08:36 PM
john west? no, i dont think that is it.the guy that owns the place does mostly transmissions.. i think the mustang stuff is just something he does with his friends.. the red car was his brother's.
10/8/2007 5:26:43 PM
my bad. where on new bern is this shop. i figured bunch of mustangs, so assuming was a bad ide. but anyway.
10/8/2007 5:30:22 PM
you've probably never heard of them, if that's what you're getting at.
10/8/2007 6:18:44 PM
power used to lift your front end is wasted power *edit* even though it does look cool as shit[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 7:14 PM. Reason : asf]

yes 70s mustangs are great oh wait. i might as well buy a mustang 2 then. fox=78.5 so its still a fox that was made in the 70. i dont think you know what your talking about. 67-69 ftw anyway back to 03 04 cobras
10/8/2007 9:01:29 PM

Oh shut the hell up. I said 70's because I know I like the 1969 version and I was simply guessing that it continued into the early-mid 70's. I also did not know they did that shitty-ass fox body style that early. Why it lasted so long the world may never know. I've avoided nit-picking you because i'm not the one to start fights and I also have to interact with you professionaly (when my inspection machine goes down). You knew what I meant as did everybody else. Don't get all buttsore that I picked on your ride.
10/8/2007 11:57:23 PM
well how bout it lasted so long because chevy couldnt compete.are you the guy with the auto camaro that sounds like a farmtruck?[Edited on October 9, 2007 at 9:51 AM. Reason : ?]
