Any local reviews/problems?I'm not so sure of the memory stick, b/c of cost and I've never been a fan of them.MicroSD for life.It has everything that I thought was good; speakerphone, hidden keypad, etc...Does anyone know if you can lock the front keys? Are sliders any worse than what I'm used to; i.e. clamshell? Most likely I'd get the unbranded firmware. Is it worth using it as an mp3 player?[Edited on October 2, 2007 at 11:59 AM. Reason : 4gb memory stick is $60 doesn't seem worth it.]

I've played with one and I liked the mp3 player on it. Its a little more similar to the ipod-style menus, so thats a plus. Memory sticks are not as cheap as SD, but you can still find pretty good deals on them. As far as the slider goes, I prefer it over a clamshell since you just flick it open and closed. It's sturdy and it stays in place. The phone automatically locks when you close it and you can enter a key combination to unlock it while closed. It's a really great phone, really slim, lightweight, the fitness software is kinda cool to use if you work out. My only minor complaint is the camera, which takes great-resolution shots, but I've seen better clarity on other 2MP cameras.[Edited on October 2, 2007 at 12:17 PM. Reason : ]

Sliders suck. They run into some problems, rubber, coming off track, gapping up near the slide. I've got a slider phn and I'm not too happy. These should be a bit interesting:http://www.verizonwireless.com/next

i have onethe cost of the memory card sucks ass no doubti love this phone, especially how loud it is and the clarity of the phone calls. The mp3 player and speakerphone are also really loud.you can set it so that when you slide it down, all the keys lock automaticallyI also have always been used to a flip phone, so i didn't know how i would adjust to a slider, but it has options on how you want to answer/end calls, so i have it set much like a flip phone to answer when open, end when closed etc...u can also answer calls when the phone is closed, which is a nice sony featurei really relaly like this phone so far, and i would def recomend it, especially for the price from cingular/att. the fitness software is also a cool little app, the built in pedometer is actually useful. thats my quick .02,

It's a nice little phone for sure. The only downside i can think of offhand is that the keypad is a bit small so fattys might have trouble texting their bfffs. [Edited on October 4, 2007 at 8:37 PM. Reason : ]

another question.the thing i like about my phone is that there is a programmable shortcut link on the main screen where i set profiles, bring up the calculator, text message app, etc...is there something on the sony ericsson phone that does that too?that's my main hangup. if someone could answer that, i can go ahead and get it.
10/24/2007 1:56:37 PM
Possibly. I know you can set shortcuts on unlocked/non-AT&T firmware, but At&t likes to fuck things up with hotkeys to the AT&T shop and things you will never use....I suppose you could try one out at the store and ask the guy about it....
10/24/2007 10:19:55 PM
I believe the AT&T mappings have the shortcut menu key going to the web browser. Your best bet is to get an unlocked W580i online with the non-AT&T customized software.

yeah, the circle on the phone is programmable to set your own shortcuts.i changed all the preset ones, the only one that you cannot change is the globe button that connects you to your internet browser. and i dont think you can change the walkman button either, but I like having that there...
10/24/2007 10:48:35 PM
ah so there is no link on the main screen where you can go to a shortcut menu.interesting.i like being able to set a ringing profile on the fly - silent, normal, outdoors, meeting, etc...i don't want to scroll through different menus to bring up the calc and stuff i use all the time.i really am interested in the phone, but i'll have to get another less capable nokia if there isn't a solution.i don't mind getting unbranded firmware.i hope the keys don't crack anymore.

would anyone reccomend the firmware i should be using?wotan's newest firmware is branded. i'm not sure what that means other than using the presets of the company it was used for.

keys are fixed.. if you unbrand it, you should be able to store whatever you want in the shortcut menu.also hold down # key to go to silent mode.. I really don't use all the profiles.. just full on or full silent (with vibrate)

i'm curious as to the durability of the phone. all of the reviews i've read so far mention loosening of the slider track and cracking of the keypad.i'd hate for that to happen with mine.[Edited on October 26, 2007 at 12:49 AM. Reason : how is texting on it?]
10/26/2007 12:49:01 AM
texting is easy. none of those problems you mentioned, 2 months of ownership.
