These are higher rated than the brand new Logitech G51's that are going for $200-150. You wont find better speakers for under 130 bucks, if even at that price. This truly is a steal, even though they are 4 years old. Speakers are not something that have huge changes over time. A high end floor standing speaker from the 70's will still sound superb even when compared to modern floor standing speakers. Only a audiophile would be able to distinguish much difference. It's all about quality of build, which these do have.

are they brand new or refurbished? "retail" suggests brand new i GUESS...but the reason i ask is because ebay has refurbished ones for about $80 with shipping

@ evan: Yes, these will probably blow your current speakers out of the water.

If you want a base-level comparison of how your speakers sound compared to the other speakers, go into the bookstore's computer section and turn up the speakers on our mac pro while the screensaver is running. Plays some kind of carribean/latin/whatever music... OK now go over to our IBM X6x tablet with the Z-2300's on it and play something on that. Basically, the creature speakers aren't bad, but they are far overpriced for what they are. Considering these are about $74 after rebate, you can't go wrong.

I just ordered a set to replace my Z3's that I bought a while ago. My bro gets my old Z3's... Heh I figure he'll be happy about that.

I like this thread, 'cause it's made me purchase my first 5.1 set of speakers that I've owned (for my computer).
