Best show of the year.

I got the paper plate setlist and some autographs, the guys were pretty cool.

Nah, definitely not the best show of the year. The openers were kinda weak and they didn't play You Can't Hold The Hand of a Rock and Roll Man.

Also Jon I did not see you this is a sad thing

It was freakin Damien Jurado, just because you choose not to listen closely to the music is no fault of his.

I mean I was listening but it was basically the sonic equivalent of watching a slug crawl across a hot road

I thought it was up there with Midlake for the best show this year, personally. (which says a lot for me, as I've seen some solid acts this past 12 months).

The opener, Damien Jurado... good god... shoot me now. I was begging for that guy to leave the stage. I admit, I didn't give him much of a listen. After almost falling asleep during the first 5 minutes of his nearly muted performance, I grabbed a beer and stayed outside until Okkervil River took the stage.

Anyone with the setlist, would you be so kind to post it all?? Please.

It's really fucking stupid to assume that just because somebody doesn't like some music it means they don't understand it. I've seen him a couple of times, heard his music for years, and I'll say it as plainly as I can: DAMIEN JURADO IS FUCKING BORING. It's shitty white bread singer/songwriter crap that's a dime a dozen. And it's hilarious that you have your panties in a wad because nobody else likes him.

^^ Pbbbft...just admit, you tried calling out his talent by making the lowest form of critique and jumped on the idiot wagon.

Almost every credible music critic has had nothing but praise for the man, call him boring, fine, but don't be a retard by doing this... (update) quick search on google, Metacritic scores in the mid to upper 70s = same as Animal Collective, Aesop Rock, The Go! Team, and Minus the Bear that's just a quick search. Hardly dime a dozen/shitty as you put it.

or ^^ that. I thought you were smarter than that.

Sorry if I got a little worked up, and wouldn't have if people had stuck to statements like, "I felt that Damien Jurado was a bad match, or I'm just not into that style of music" but after coming back from the show which I attended to see Jurado as much as Okkervil and having to listen to a noisy crowd and then hear people make statements attacking his talent and appearance I kinda lost it. Don't mean to come off as my opinion is the only one that matters but I felt compelled to defend his music because nobody else seems to be doing so. Kinda forgot which message board I was on for a second.

the crowd was pretty rude. i wasn't into him live but i bet i would be into his music on albums. what was going on when he was joking around about fighting some guy?

It sounded like he knew the guy and it was inside joke/fooling around.

another blog article i found relating to the fans on this tour...

Quote :
"Seattle's Damien Jurado opened the show, and did an admirable job but boy, did I feel sorry for him. Sometimes Toronto audiences can be very disrespectful, and Damien spent most of his performance battling against their endless chattering and mindless heckles. I suppose this just wasn't the right crowd for his style of laid back but beautiful indie folk rock. However, even during Okkervil River's performance, Will had to tell the audience to 'shush' at one point, and made it clear that the song was not going to continue until they do. And for the first time in history it worked! As far as Damien goes, his last Toronto experience resulted in him having his van broken into, so I doubt that this time around he'll be leaving with a better taste in his mouth. It would be nice to see him perhaps under different circumstances next time. Full marks for soldiering forth anyways, keeping as positive attitude as possible, communicating with the ones who were appreciative and putting on a very decent show.

I completely agree that the crowd was being rude by talking and milling around, which is why I took my drinking and socializing outside, as stated earlier. I still, however, stand by my opinion that he wasn't a good match for this tour and his material was putting me to sleep. If I listened to one of his albums in studio form and in the right mood, perhaps I would like it better, but the man has zero stage presence and that's a quality you can't have when you're performing such low-fi, mellow material.

It was weird seeing okkervil river playing in a larger venue. Not bad, just weird. The last time I saw them was at duke coffee house and prior to that at local 506. I'm not complaining, I'm happy that they can fill up larger venues. It's just different.

^^ See, I can respect that. I can see where you are coming from. You aren't making excuses for the crowds behavior by attacking the man's talent. Thank you.

At one point Damien Jurado even kind of acknowledged this fact. I thought he was a pretty cool dude, although I'm unsure of my opinion of his music.

Although I didn't really feel his music, he was pretty cool during the show and afterwards. He said something in reply to something I said about that asshole that kept screaming, and afterwards he was really appreciative of the turnout.

I agree with screentest. I think in a different environment I would have dug his music, but not for this tour.

Stating that someone is a no talent dime a dozen musician as justification for being rude during his set? Hardly something I'm gonna let go.
