do you know which hit im talking about? the guy gets a lob in center of the field while running straight across, .5 seconds after getting the pass he turns into a player whos helmet to helmet hit takes him off of his feet, and layes him out upside down on the ground, leaving him unconscious (and from what i thought, dead)

the announcer in the box said he has never been so glad to see a player get up after that hit then the one he just saw...

the announcer on the field said in all her days of reporting on the sidelines she's never heard a hit louder then this one that just happend...

I'm still surprised there's no helmet-to-helmet penalty in college football.

Someone youtube a clip of the big hit from the State game. It's so fun to watch someone's helmet fly 10 yards.

i can't figure out if you people like to see carnage or not...on one hand you're all "DAAAAMN son you got stood the fuck up", but then if the player is injured the tone quickly changes to how terrible it is, etc.

make up your mind - if you really like it, then you should be happy when someone breaks their neck too. but if you don't like it, then stop saying how great a hit was if the guy walks off

the game requires contact, and the right type of contact takes skill and practice, so to see a good hit (to me) is like seeing a great catch or a great run...regardless of the player receiving im always glad to see good (clean) hits. But no one (i hope) likes to see players get potential career ending injuries

They really need a helmet to helmet rule in college football. It won't happen until someone dies or becomes a quad from it.

Sounds like a conflict of interest, in that the hit is the driving force behind the injury. You have some priorities to sort out.

no you need to stop being an idiot... liking to see an athletic play is not the same as liking to see someone injured

so what's a "good hit"? one that's right on the threshold of "oh snap" and "RIP"? face it, you have a morbid fanaticism for violence. it's the same driving force behind why people like NHL, NASCAR, MMA, UFC, etc.

football hits and NASCAR crashes and other life-threatening contact plays are NOT the same as any other athletic play (i.e. making a catch or run), so don't even start to compare them.

Not every hit, nay even a nascar crash, need be life threatening to still be entertaining.

Football players wear these things they call "pads".

these "pads" will protect you from 90% of hits, yes, even the big ones.

I like explosions and mass destruction, but only when nobody gets hurt because that's just crossing the line.

apples/oranges

a hit in football is an intended action that is part of the game.

A crash in NASCAR is an unintended action that is part of the "game."

"so what's a "good hit""

Technically speaking a good hit has to have a positive effect on the play from the perspective of the team who's on the hitting side of the hit. If a fullback puts a knock down hit on a blitzing linebacker, thus protecting the quarterback, that's a good hit. If the same fullback puts a hit on a blitzing linebacker well after the play, then it's a cheap shot.

For the purpose of entertainment, a good hit is one that appears to be hard, violent, etc., but the player on the receiving end isn't actually injured by it, just prevented from doing his job on that play in a visually pleasing way -- a player gets hit and flies 3 yards in the air, then gets up and moves on to the next play.

I don't see why this is such a hard concept to grasp.
