9/19/2007 1:49:29 PM
I just read about this today. Sounds awesome.
9/19/2007 2:18:27 PM
I’ve seen a lot of ads for this movie on tv, and even in some marvel comics. Looks interesting, I'll probably buy it.I've also seen alot of ads for this in the comic world (comes out in a few weeks).
9/19/2007 7:07:21 PM
so the symbiote gets a hold of wolverine? sounds like jumping the shark to me
9/19/2007 7:30:51 PM
potentially a good pairing, but who knows, it almost seems like theyre runnin out of fresh ideas they just jam things together
9/19/2007 7:38:37 PM
I just got finished watching it. I was very much so not impressed. Maybe because I absolutely loved everything about the comic books, but the movie didn't follow it at all. It borrowed a few things here and there, but only loosely. No JLA, No 4 supermen returning to take Superman's place, lots of my favorite little details ignored. Plus Doomsday didn't look nearly as badass. Overall I was very disappointed. ]
9/19/2007 7:53:31 PM
has the symbiote ever attached to any other mutant? other than spiderman obviously

i'm moreso waiting for new frontierhttp://youtube.com/watch?v=_-Hb_d5Qnts
9/19/2007 8:36:50 PM
off topic but wolverine with symbiote -> last issue, they showed up in new york and there were symbiotes attacking everything. meaning, its not the venom symbiote, but something else.
9/19/2007 9:18:51 PM
I think the Wolverine/Symbiote thing has potential imo.But as for this movie, all I have to say is....meh. It doesn't look like it'll be nearly as bloody and emotional as the comic, and I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it'll be edited somewhat seeing how it looks like it's in the same continuity as the WB cartoon (which was aimed primarily at kids, though it did have its mature moments, such as when Darkseid killed that detective dude in front of Superman). In fact, the only decent animated Superman movie that I can think of off the top of my head is World's Finest, when he teamed up with Batman.
9/19/2007 10:06:35 PM
The venom symbiote currently is on the former scorpion with the thunderbolts. These are new symbiotes... also apparently punisher has a new "venom" suit which appears to be made out of a symbiote. I think that could make for a bad ass combo.
9/19/2007 10:41:30 PM
after viewing the embed in this thread it sounds like the novel "the death and life of superman"
9/19/2007 10:51:11 PM
^^^ it is not in the same continuity as the cartoon on tv, but it does have the same art director, so some of the looks are very similar.

I havent watched it yet, but from what Ive seen, as much as I like both Adam Baldwin and James Marsters, Im not buying those voices in those roles. I realize this isnt in the same continuity as the other Superman animated features/shows, but Id much prefer the Tim Daly/Clancy Brown/Dana Delany voice cast.

9/20/2007 7:27:01 AM
I watched it last night and thought it was pretty cool. The only reason the voices didn't seem to fit is because of the art. You're so used to hearing Tim Daly as Superman when he's drawn like that so it takes some getting used to. That said, the movie is basically just two really long fight scenes with some humor in between. Also, Spider-Man is a mutate, not a mutant.

I was heavy into comic collecting when that issue came out and I skipped it. A large enough printing to assure that everyone that wanted a copy got one, advertising it as a collectors item so even the people that didn't want one got one, etc. Who are you going to be able to sell it to when the day comes? No one.Even then I could recognize that the only people that were going to make any money off of it were the comic shop owners charging between $20-25 to the people lined up outside their door.[Edited on September 20, 2007 at 8:44 AM. 9/20/2007 8:43:13 AM
^^^Didnt they print so many that the comic is worth $10 or so?[Edited on September 20, 2007 at 8:47 AM. Reason : -]

As pertaining to Venom...I don't think the symbiote has attached itself to many other super heroes. There was Punisher and Spider Man that I know of, but other venoms just took on normal people/prisoners. The sons and daughters of venom comic I came across was interesting, but if I remember they all died except for the good symbiote.I actually thought that wolverine/venom had already happened though. It could be pretty interesting, but I would think his healing factor would allow him to resist some of the symbiote's parasitic effects.

thanks to doomsday and rob liefeld, the bottom fell out of the comics market in the early 90s
9/20/2007 1:18:36 PM
You'd think that if it was Rob Liefeld's fault then there would be a near infinite supply of pouches to catch the falling comic market.
9/20/2007 1:35:53 PM
haha and his screen-door backgrounds
9/20/2007 2:35:49 PM
just got done watching Doomsday, it was pretty disappointing to me. first of all, the lines on superman's cheeks, it just looked really fucking weird. no simultaneous death blow in his fight with doomsday, in fact the whole battle was really anticlimatic. overall i give the movie a C+
9/20/2007 5:33:31 PM
Terrible. But the Kevin Smith cameo was hilarious.
9/20/2007 8:05:16 PM
If the complete plot synopsis on wiki is to be believed, all I have to say about this movie is that it is UTTER CRAP!Spoiler in the middle:Somebody please tell me that I'm wrong when I've read that Superman "isn't really dead, his metabolism just dropped so low that only the robot in the Fortress of Solitude could detect it." Not an exact quote, but within that spirit. I suppose without that plot device they can't actually bring him back, but somehow this is completely asinine and just completely cheapens the notion that Superman dies. But I suppose one could argue that Superman's subsequent resurrection in the comic books also cheapened his death there a little bit (even though comic book characters seem to die and then come back to life on a regular basis).[/spoiler][Edited on September 20, 2007 at 8:35 PM. Reason : didn't add enough space]
9/20/2007 8:35:04 PM
^ from what i understand, i thought that was basically the explanation in the comics as well, from the wiki page on the comic:
9/20/2007 11:50:30 PM
^I missed that part. I guess they're staying true to the comics afterall.
9/21/2007 8:39:55 AM
watched it last nightpretty good
9/21/2007 10:42:53 AM
^^ yeah...kinda cheapened the whole issue of Clark's dad having a heart attack and "crossing over" to try and convince his son to return to the land of the living...but i guess that's fine, it was a pretty odd issue anyway... and the one that resulted in the "four supermen" crap...
9/21/2007 10:51:31 AM
first comic book i ever got was the first eradicator issue of superman...it had an orange cover
9/21/2007 10:56:29 AM
finally watched itluthor's voice was different but goodsuperman's voice was different but badlois' voice was different but bad, yet had it's momentsSPOILERS-----------------------+kevin smith cameo+the Mechanical Monsters robot he had in the fortress-superman piledriving doomsday into the middle of the city instead of just leaving his ass drifting in space-superman fucking a woman without even telling her who he is for SIX FUCKING MONTH - SUPERMAN DOESN'T DO THAT SHIToverall i thought it was entertaining and was glad i didn't have to hear any bizzaro-speak

I said before a few weeks, it looks like the exact date is:NEW AVENGERS # 35 In Stores: 2007-10-10I've been following that series for a while, b/c I like the team that opposed registration in the civil war, but mostly just b/c it has Dr Strange, Wolverine, and Spiderman and a few others on the same team. And I just bought the superman doomsday movie, haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Mostly because I just bought this set of Marvel Movies:+(the tv series pilot movie spawned by the movies. snipes was replaced, but its still in the same continuity as the movies & has alot of the same graphics/music & some scenes as flashbacks from the movies)+Thank god for Amazon's buy together prices [Edited on September 27, 2007 at 11:35 AM. Reason : (although a few items were cheaper in-store at best buy)]
9/27/2007 11:32:14 AM
^Thats a nice set. MOney well spent. However, perhaps because I like the books so much, "Ultimate Avengers" was a huge disappointment. Still, a great set of dvds.
9/27/2007 11:51:15 AM
anyone watched that doctor strange movie yet ^^?
9/27/2007 1:29:37 PM
9/28/2007 4:29:53 PM
^but if the superhero always took the easy road out there wouldn't be a story!
9/28/2007 8:40:34 PM
Finally watched the doomsday movie. I enjoyed, but since I've hardly followed any DC stuff, I didn't have any of the "this isn't following the storyline closely enough" feeling. The special features afterwards talking about how they built up the action by each of the comics leading up having less panels per page until the last issue where it was one big panel per page.I enjoyed the doctor strange, and most of those animated movies. It’s kind of a half way between true movies and the comic feel. Neither marvel or dc seem to be trying to make them exact copies of the storylines though. The special features also talked about news coverage of it which had some interesting parallels to major news agencies like CNN covering Captain America's recent death. He's still dead right? I mean the stories are just covering what happened earlier in his life?
9/29/2007 4:02:49 PM
The special features also mentioned a New Frontier justice league animated movie they are coming out with next year.

new frontier http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-Hb_d5Qnts[Edited on September 29, 2007 at 6:02 PM. Reason : it's drawn in the same style as Justice League Unlimited, but isn't in the same universe as it]
