Probably a long shot, but is anyone going or want to go?

I may be going. A few of my friends have a few extra seats in their tent available, all i need to do is get down there.

which Oktoberfest are you talking aboutgood job being informative

Oktoberfest came through here (Huntsville, AL) this past weekend. I went with my girlfriend and it wasn't what I expected in terms of Oktoberfest. When I think of Oktoberfest, I think of a bunch of German-themed stuff with bratwurst and 500 types of beer all over the place. This wasn't the case. It was more like the state fair but a lot smaller and less crowded. There were rides, carnies, funnel cakes, games, etc. I still had a good time, but the most German part I could find about it was that there was a small tent that was selling bratwurst and schnitzel. Not too German, but still fun.

there is only one Oktoberfest. There's no need to qualify it. If he was talking about some oktoberfest-themed podunk county fair party in Georgia or whatever, he would have said so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oktoberfesthttp://www.oktoberfest.de/en/i went in 05 when I was living in Munich. Will try to go back next year and stay with some of my friends there. Chance is in Munich on business this week, but I believe he is leaving the day it starts. Here's pics from 3 of the tents I went to in 2005http://joelion.com/gallery/europe/germany/munich/oktoberfest/

i don't care what Google says. There's a reason the first two links go to The Oktoberfest, though.

Aside from the real one in Germany...I've never heard of this podunk thing you speak of.
9/18/2007 12:50:31 PM
it's what the rest of the links on the Google search point to. Every church, county fair, school, radio station, etc that wants to have a party in the month of October think that it's really clever if they serve sausage and call it Oktoberfest. I think The Daily Show did a report from an "Oktoberfest" in Georgia or Alabama a couple years ago, where they had plenty of people show up in lederhosen and dirndls, but it was a dry event..... no beer.

I'll be there Sobchak, in Bratislava on biz but going to Munich on Friday night. Let me know, first keg doesn't get tapped until noon on Saturday.
