brother needs to get a new pci-e video card...i can sell him my practically new 8500gt for $65 and buy an 8600gt for $95, or he can just get an 8500gt on his own...in your wise and educated opinions, is the difference between a 256mb 8500gt and a 256mb 8600gt worth the difference in price (~$30 for me)? i've been using an 8500gt as an upgrade to a 6200 (big jump there, at least) and i'm pretty happy with it (ie. i can play oblivion on almost max setting)

i realize most people will say that the 8600gts is a much better card (and it is), but i care very little for watching hd content and i'm not sure the performance increases are worth the cost in my case

suggestions? opinions? will i see a big difference between an 8500gt and 8600gt if i decide to buy one and pass the 8500gt to my brother?

if the 8600 is gddr3 and the 8500 not then you should know the difference.

^^ I've been comparing my x800pro to a couple of new cards, and the 8600GT is a overall a little faster. I might be mistaken, but i don't think there was that much of a difference between the x800's and x850's.

The big difference other than DX10 is that the 8600GT will support the new pixel shader standard. I have a copy of RS:Vegas collecting dust because of that shader model crap.

ok im not going to list the differences because

A: im drunk
B: you can google them for yourself

but heres the bottom line

8500 8600 and all that jazz are minuscule, just check newegg for pice differneces and you will see the steps...not that much

however, huge step up from 8600/8500 to 8800...just read up on the technology thats upgrading and also prices....prices are directly proportional to shit in gcard...

this may be 100% wrong b/c im drunk but w/e suckadick

i lub you

^^ nah that's pretty much it

^yep, see how big a jump it is from any other 8000 series card up to the 8800, that's really the only one worth your dollar.
