And if so, do you ever experience any pain/tenderness near the incision site? It's been years and I still feel discomfort sometimes. It's been suggested that it's the less flexible scar tissue getting strained by my active lifestyle.

yeah i just had one 4 weeks ago here in the philippines. my incision scar is about 5cm. mine seems to be ok. they did 5 layers of stitches. 1 was the outside layer then three layers that are dissolvable and am told will dissolve in 3 months and then a permanent layer.[Edited on September 12, 2007 at 1:46 AM. i've had a similar incision to harvest bone from my hip/pelvis. it was about 6 months ago, and i still have some discomfort from it. my doctor also said it's likely scar tissue and nerves that are still coming back.

was this your doctor?

Had mine done laproscopically (sp?) so I have about a 1" scar on my stomach. Apparently they went in through my belly button and also a small incision on my waist.I can occasionally 'feel' it but it doesn't usually hurt. Although I have, in the past, felt a bit of discomfort. If I press down near the site of the main incision you can still see/feel the scar tissue.

Mine was done laproscopically. I have three scars, one inside my belly button, all less than an inch in length. There's never been any pain for me.

Ditto.

Had mine taken out in 6th grade. They used dissolvable stitches. I still have a scar but i've never had any pain from it.

you might have some adhesions in the area.
9/12/2007 8:47:47 PM
What does that mean?
9/12/2007 8:52:11 PM
Nope, never felt it or anything.

My scar can get kind of itchy or irritated sometimes and its been almost 10 years. I used to put that scarderma stuff on it, but then I got lazy

i put vitamin e oil on mine in the morning and before i go to bed. during the day i put lotion on it. yeahhh probably overkill.

^^^^i'm assuming she means scar tissue adhesions. it can stick/grow together to your skin and restrict movement over the abdominal muscles.

i remember reading some studies where they looked at long term outcomes of kids who had open vs. lap appys, and there were significantly more GI complications in the people who had open surgeries. what little i know about the recovery process is that pretty much the more invasive the procedure, the more dense the adhesions/scar tissue will be (someone correct me if i'm wrong)...

I have a 6" scar where I had my spleen removed at age 5. I get pain there sometimes even to this day and its due to scar tissue getting strained.

^yes, do you have that condition or know someone who has it? Not many people know about it.
