My wife and I are moving back to Raleigh in early December, and are planning to stay only until about August 2008, when I'm planning to start a PhD somewhere else. So we need somewhere that offers a 6-9 month lease that isn't totally jacked up on price for not being a year, in a nice-ish community. When we lived in Raleigh before, we were always near NC State's campus, but now we don't have that as a requirement, so we could branch out a bit into territory where I know nothing about the communities. So does anyone have experience with good complexes that offer a shorter-term lease? Timing is somewhat flexible since we'll most likely be able to move any time after I decide where I'll be going for a PhD, but it definitely won't be 12 months. We would be looking for a 1-bedroom place, 600-900 sq ft, in the $500-700 range.

i did a 6 month lease from clark properties a couple of years ago. not a specific complex, but they manage a number of reasonabley priced townhomes in the area.

interested in this too..coming back to Raleigh in December for 9 months or so.. Guess I should do more research before bothering asking since I'll probably want to be closer to the usual campus places

sumter square is very reasonably priced...it isn't as "nice" as ivy chase or something like that, but is well maintained and very cheap. when i was there 2 years ago, a 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment was $699. i believe that they have one and two bedrooms, but it is very reasonable and well located.

I live in a one bedroom at Olde Raleigh on Duraleigh, and I have a 7 month lease. My rent is right around $700 a month, but you get what you pay for. You should check it out, it's a good place to live.

I'm coming into town later this week to visit with friends and will be staying for a bit longer to do some apartment hunting ahead of the move, so all of the tips of places to look are really appreciated.

most places I've ever dealt with offer some combination of 3, 6, 9, or 12 month leases. And if you don't limit your area, there are a shit load of apartments in Raleigh. I live at "Wildwoods at Lake Johnson" and pay like $750 a month for a 2 bedroom. Not sure what that works out to for a shorter lease. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but the inside is nice and it's big and the staff is good.might get a better idea looking through http://www.rent.com and then asking if anyone here has experience with a specific place.
