i believe we have frozen assest of Iran.
9/7/2007 1:45:11 PM
wow...have US courts become a circus so soon? Next thing we'll see is Iraqi courts upholding a lawsuit against the US for the deaths of countless innocent lives. I'm sure Iran will come up with something else similar.

what about the iranian commercial airliner that was shout out of the sky by a cruise missile, killing all ~300 on board? did they get compensation?what about the prisoners from abu ghraib who were sexually tortured and humiliated? did they get their compensation?what about the arab-european who was picked up from the streets of macedonia, flown to guantanamo, held for several months, TORTURED, then dropped off in the middle of nowhere on the streets of another eastern european country (he shared the name with a known terrorist )? the US even refused to apologize to him, let alone compensate him.what about the hundreds of cases similar to that guy's? like the 4 british-pakistanis held for 4 years and tortured, just because they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and shared names with known terrorists (see Road to Guantanamo)? did they receive their compensation?what about victims of murder, rape, and torture of civilians by "bad apples" in US forces in iraq? like the 14 year old girl gang-raped, her parents and younger sister shot point blank, then the girl herself killed, and then whole house burnt down to destroy evidence. did their relatives get any compensation? and countless other heinous cases like that.what about known and documented israeli atrocities? if iran can be convicted because it "supports" the perpatrator, surely the US can/should be convicted because it supports israel.let the accusations of anti-semitejew-hateranti-americanturrrrristetcflow.[Edited on September 7, 2007 at 3:24 PM. Lets put you on the other side of the fence and see how 'pro-america' you are. But since as far as you are concerned America is the only country that exists on this planet and its people are the only citizens you don't care how others are treated.

No prisoner has ever been murdered in GuantanamoI only wish our captured troops weren't beheaded, you know, since the enemies are such caring people and the US are such bad people

I'd have to agree with OEP and golovko on this one. I love america but the average american's laziess, and i include myself in that, and the irresonsible foriegn policy and administration are creating so many international problems that it so many of the problems we face can be traced back to what we are doingtherefore seeing the truth for what it is is not being anti-americian, if you love american and have hope for it, then you should try to see the truth and stop trying to defend america's mistakes

This is a simple matter of the United States has deemed Iran a state sponsor of terror. Through the laws of the United States, once a country is deemed a state sponsor of terrorism, all assets of said country in the United States are immediately frozen. Families and people who have been injured in acts of terror that can be tied directly to the state sponsor are then alloted the ability to sue said country in American courts. There is nothing illegal or mischievous about this.

I doubt that the Iranian government will pay.I'm assuming that this trial was to provide some closure for the victims' families. Maybe the family members expect compensation; I wouldn't.Imagine how many foreign countries would like to see us compensate families for the militant groups that we've supported over the past half century.[Edited on September 7, 2007 at 8:56 PM. Reason : ^So the families will actually be awarded from the frozen assets?]

What I can't understand is why it has to be either/or with you slovenly droolers.Of course the USA has made mistakes. That is an undeniable condition of being human.Of course this thread is full of hypocritical morons who detest American policy but greedily accept the rewards of it.What is wrong about an AMERICAN court condemning the bombing of a barracks and then rewarding the families of the wrongfully dead with some Iranian money that's been sitting in the bank since the Ayatollah got the boot?[Edited on September 7, 2007 at 10:43 PM. I think the real problem is the devide in the american public and govermentone side is trying to figure out how to win wars and make moneythe other side is constantly bitching about what the other side is doing wrongits like a bad marriage, but both sides are neccassary to the survival of americawe just need to work on how to get alog so we dont destroy ourselves
