Not too long ago I was reading online that ECU has/had 13 players that committed to ACC schools but didn't qualify academically...ending up at ECU. I can't find the original site with that info. Was that a load of crap or somewhat true? (I remember Chuck bitching about it last year after we lost to them)

I know they have that Kalif Mitchell guy who played two years for UNCommunity College

one of my boys was supposed to come to state but didn't because of academics, woulda been a great pickup for our defense too

The only Amato quote I heard about non-qualifiers was about Akrom. I think by the time we lost to ECU he had given up because he knew he was already canned.
This is not news. ECU is a joke of a university academically. They are basically unranked in all college academic rankings.

How much different are their academic requirements than State's? Is it a conference thing or a school thing?

as far as athletics goes, it's a conference thing. There are NCAA academic requirements, which all schools must meet for players. Each conference also sets their own requirements, of which the ACC's are more stringent than the NCAA minimums. On top of that each school has it's own requirements, which at a minimum match the conference and/or NCAA requirements, or in some cases are much more stringent. Duke, for example, has much higher academic requirements than that required by the ACC. ECU's requirements are probably the same as the NCAA minimum, but certainly much lower than the ACC.

Marcus Hands was originally committed to UNC.

If I'm not mistaken, five of the six major conferences (and I know ECU isn't in one of the six) have the same or very similar requirements now.. The only lagging one is the SEC. An autistic and mildly retarded Dallas Baker won the NCAA Title last year for Florida. You can use that as a prime example.

Is there a link somewhere that actually lists every conference's academic requirements? I'm surprised to see that the SEC is not up to the other five big conferences' academic snuff when I remember Spurrier's b****ing over the offseason at South Carolina.
