http://www.harnettanimalcontrol.com/they get a lot of dogs & puppies in every weekthey put down everything that's not adopted by Tuesday afternoon at 4pm first thing Wednesday morning. they're decent at updating their website but usually have many more animals than listed. So call or stop by the shelter to see what they have to be sure. It's $20 to adopt an animal and they require a pre-payed rabies vaccine (from any vet).I got your pm so i'm guessing someone told you I have puppies. I do not have any at this time. I used to always have at least 1 foster here but I no longer foster due to being 6 months pregnant. However I'm still an advocate for kill-shelters in the area and network with rescue groups to try and get dogs out of them.http://west.petfinder.com/shelters/NC119.htmlFranklin County is another one to check out. They're bad at updating their website so CALL to see what they have. Their vet comes on thursdays or fridays to put animals down. It's FREE to pull an animal from there. With both shelters make sure you bring the animal to a vet immediately (same day is you can). they receive no vet care/vaccines while there and need a first round of vaccines, dewormer, physical right away. It's also recommended to quarantine them from other animals for at least 10 days.www.bfpa.org is a great local rescue. But they might not let you adopt considering you're only 18. www.petfinder.com is a great resource. You can look up pretty much all the shelters and rescue groups in NC and search for dogs. www.raleigh.craigslist.com Check out the pets section. Make sure you consider the expenses involved in a dog. especially a puppy. You can plan on spending upwards of $500 for vet bills in the first year not to mention food, crate, etc... There are discount spay/neuter options available and will save you money.hope this helps

there is a place called the pet pad in cary that has lots of really cute pups. the ones i saw were about $300-$500 though but the girl who was working said they drop the prices until the dogs are sold.

^ thanks, that would be out of the budget we had initially planned for but some of those guys are super cute.

^^ I'd always be wary of pet store "puppy mill" pups

I got a total puppy mill vibe from those dogs when we were in there (if thats the one over near trader joes). And I'm from the puppy mill capitol of the world.I cried in the car after I left thinking about their poor parents.

I got my dogs from the animal protection society of Durham and the Wake County animal shelter. They have a lot of different dogs and puppies to choose from. Unfortunately, their website does not do the shelter justice.http://www.wakegov.com/pets/shelter/Their site is updated frequently.http://www.apsofdurham.org/index.html

LOL...get a puppy which needs lots of attention and while she's at school all day it'll just chill in the house or backyard. Great idea!

some dogs can do just fine by themselves for a few hours, however if she's teaching, she will be gone awhile. why not get a grown dog who doesn't need the constant attention of a puppy? just a suggestion.

^yeah I recommend: http://www.cbhr.com/

Plenty of people who work 8hr days raise puppies. If you work with a puppy and crate train it then it's definitely doable. However, a really young puppy is going to have trouble holding it for 8 hrs. But one that is 12/14 weeks + and has been worked with is perfectly capable. I'd recommend adopting an older puppy or an adult that is already housebroken and crate trained and you'll have a lot less work cut out for you. there is also dog day care and you could hire a dogwalker to come over halfway thru the day to let it out and take it for a walk.

She works 8 hour days but when I'm not in class I'm usually at her house, I would take care of him in the meantime.

yo danny

haha its cute joey, you guys should breed those at the house, i'd buy one.

isn't the pet pad the place that sells kittens for $100? that made me sad when i went in there, because there are plenty of homeless kittens that you can get for free, or from a kill shelter, or the spca... but they still want to charge $100. do they even provide their animals with medical attention before they're sold? gah. adopt!!
9/4/2007 4:55:37 PM
Yeah Pet Pad was pretty ridiculous. We are going to end up adopting hopefully
