I got him about 4 years ago. His name is Rufus. He's a Chinese Hamster so, from what I've read, he's only supposed to live like 3 years at most. He's outlived two Syrians and two Russian Dwarf Hamsters. Here he is when I first got him:Here he is now:I'm pretty sure he is blind in at least one eye, according to that picture. Also notice he's got those huge "old wizard in an RPG" claws. But, after all this, he keeps on trucking. He's never gotten wettail; I guess he's just blessed with long life. Any idea how long this is in human years, like 100?

That is one grizzly hamster.
9/3/2007 2:17:47 PM
Hamster owner huh? so is this guy
9/3/2007 2:20:08 PM
your hamster looks in similar condition to my dog who is somewhere between 15 and 18 years old. as long as he's happy and healthy, he doesn't get the needle.that little guy probably has another year ahead of him.
9/3/2007 2:20:12 PM
Can you even euthanize a hamster? Wouldn't that be like shoving a straw into your body?
9/3/2007 8:31:40 PM
no, it wouldn't
9/3/2007 8:33:25 PM
they could gas him if you are worried that a needle would hurt him
9/3/2007 8:33:37 PM
or just let him live until he dies. he's healthy, no reason to gas him.
9/3/2007 8:36:07 PM
good JOB ON JINXING HIM
9/3/2007 8:41:08 PM
you could step on it.
9/3/2007 9:24:36 PM
i think they euthanize hamsters by putting them in the freezer[Edited on September 3, 2007 at 9:26 PM. Reason : i love hamsters!]
9/3/2007 9:25:51 PM
get him killed.
9/3/2007 9:27:49 PM
You guys are mean
9/3/2007 9:33:49 PM
don't kill him. he's a cute little bugger.
9/3/2007 9:34:53 PM
why would you buy a pet if you were told it wouldn't live past 3 years?
9/3/2007 9:44:32 PM
its a hamster. they don't live that long, but its not a reason not to get one. seems like this one has a good life, and maybe will live awhile longer
9/3/2007 9:46:29 PM
^because $5 is worth 3 years?
9/3/2007 9:47:06 PM
yep
9/3/2007 9:48:50 PM
i guess i'll always be a dog person. they're more fun to play with
9/3/2007 9:50:47 PM
^very true. dogs are awesome.
9/3/2007 9:51:39 PM
well, you are GodIf you want, your hamster can live another year!
9/3/2007 9:54:32 PM
^^^^^ ticks are free and some varieties can live decades. that and they only need to feed 3 times in their lives.on national geographic i saw a thing about some kind of tick that can live 70 years in its adult stage without feeding.
9/3/2007 9:58:48 PM
I remember when you got that thing and I thought you'd kill him within three weeks.Seriously.
9/3/2007 9:59:47 PM
^^ticks should be eradicated.
9/3/2007 10:06:23 PM
yes, there is nothing beneficial about ticks. at all.well, maybe being a food source for something but still.
9/3/2007 10:44:57 PM
i wish i could live 70 years without feeding. it would make my grocery bills a lot cheaper.
9/4/2007 9:41:01 AM
if people didn't have to eat, they'd probably eat anyways.

9/4/2007 10:29:56 AM
gas is expensive, just put him in the freezer when it's his time to go
9/4/2007 10:33:06 AM
I think he's on his last leg tonight. He's barely able to walk and he is breathing really hard and fast. I don't think he'll make it through the night. RIP little buddy

10/3/2007 9:29:31 AM

10/3/2007 9:35:47 AM
10/3/2007 9:36:05 AM
I feel so bad because I had to go to work and I didn't want to leave his corpse in the cage all day. I wanted to bury him, but he had to be disposed of. Sigh .
10/3/2007 10:08:40 PM
RIP poor guy.
10/3/2007 10:27:01 PM
whats the difference between being buried in your yard and letting worms gnaw him and him being buried in a landfill and letting seagulls gnaw him? not much. i do feel sad for your little hamster though, he was cute. theres just no comfort to be found as a dumb piece of flesh clinging on to a rock hurtling through space. i am unmoved by the senselessness of existence.
