I put in Oblivion for the first time yesterday and after playing for a little while I hear a horrible screeching sound, the screen gets all corrupted and goes blank, etc...

Now every time I play a game the thing locks up within 2-5 minutes of gameplay. I thought maybe it was overheating, so I left it off for 24 hrs, but the same thing happened today. It happens regardless of what game I put in.

It's no longer under warranty (no I did not hack, softmod, harware mod, or anything like that). I am aware Microsoft extended the warranties on all their consoles but this one is not covered because I took it apart and painted it between the time the original warranty expired and 2 days before Microsoft announced all their consoles manufactured after X date would have a warranty extension.

Is this something that can be fixed? I'm tempted to just go pick up a new one. If I sell the controller, power supply, and A/V cable from the new one and sell just the old system on ebay, I can pick up about $120 of the $300 it costs for a new core system.

i say sell your pieces and get a used core from ebgames. at very least it should have 15 months of warranty left on it. same thing with me, only my xbox broke 5 months after the warranty went out and i just said fuck it and cracked it open myself. then last month i hear that the assholes have extended the warranty. tangent. used core from ebgames.

because when they start making games even better and they require the hdd, you'll want to have it, for starters. and there's a very good chance that's going to end up happening unless M$ wants to lose a lot more money after the disasters that have already happened with GTA4 and UT3.

I just bought the last XBox 360 core system for sale in any Wilmington store. I would have bought a used one but no one had one that was less than 18 months old. I went to every video game store in the area. It figures that the one that actually had one was the one I checked last.
