Ok, so I was researching whether I could put a licensed dell version of windows vista that came with my laptop to a Dell desktop that I own. On the internet people have claimed that it was legal to put 1 licensed vista on a desktop and notebook only but not 2 desktops. Some have claimed this is wrong and you need 2 licenses. Anyone know the real answer to that? Also I have a Toshiba windows upgrade to vista from my moms laptop i bought her but didn't bother to install it on hers since she was used to XP and was wondering if I would be able to alter that so that I could use it for my Dell. Anyone know how to do that?

you're only allowed 1 computer per license. you can put it on the desktop but your supposed to take it off the laptopsome people will forget to take it off the previous pc.[Edited on August 21, 2007 at 3:40 PM. Reason : *]

^ are you sure? i really thought that every license of windows was allowed to exist on both a desktop AND a laptop...

^no, in fact i have no idea where that rumor came from, i don't see why they would allow that1 license per computer device

^^ You may be thinking of Word/Office. The student/teacher edition license allows installation on a desktop and laptop.
