the slickdeal at officemax for the soyo 24" lcd is well worth it. I do believe this is the same panel as the dell ultra sharp. my roommate has one and it looks exactly the same. bright as the sun. my only gripe is that it's finicky on vga resolutions and doesn't like 720p/1080i, only 480p (direct from my qam tuner).
8/20/2007 1:39:56 PM
why buy a nice ass monitor if you're still using vga
8/20/2007 1:40:55 PM
Do you have a link to any technical specs and/or reviews?
8/20/2007 2:10:59 PM
My googling has revealed a lack of HDCP. That's a bit of a dealbreaker for monitors in the 24"+ range.
8/20/2007 2:19:07 PM
my qam tuner doesn't seem to bitch about it not being hdcp, probably because I'm feeding the lcd over vga from it with the dvi connected to my desktop

^^ Define "good"Are we talking Sub $500?(I also am in the market for a lappy)[Edited on May 30, 2008 at 7:41 AM. Reason : obviously not english]
5/30/2008 7:41:02 AM
we are talking lightweight, lots of RAM, decent core duo processor, good resolution and screen - not for gaming or graphics, just lightweight office type stuff on the go. portability is key and having a CD/DVD drive is key.i'm probably in the sub $600 market although i would really love an x300.
5/30/2008 1:53:33 PM
i wouldn't let a laptop with low RAM scare you off, as long as it has the capacity to add more. i bought mine with 512mb two years ago and got another stick to make it a gig, then recently upgraded to 2 gigs for like $50 or $60 (meaning bought 2x 1GB sticks for that price).
5/30/2008 3:28:40 PM
i bought my HP with 1gb of ddr2 (the lowest i could go), bought 4gb (2x2gb) of crucial for $60, and sold the 2 512mb sticks for $20 ram is cheap...get it low from the manufacturer and then buy some aftermarket (hp wanted to charge $280 for 4gb )

should/could I got from 4gigs to 6 on a laptop?not too familiar with laptops as in there being physical room to add on memory
6/5/2008 3:10:06 PM
http://www.crucial.com will tell you how much RAM you can fit in your laptop
6/5/2008 3:45:55 PM
^^ you most likely only have 2 slots available, so you couldn't add a third chip. also, unless you are running a 64 bit OS, your computer is already over the max (just over 3 GB).
6/5/2008 4:36:27 PM
just make sure to check cause Dell screwed me when i bought my laptop. Back in 2004 i ordered it with 1 gig of memory and the quote said 1x1gig stick but when i got it, it had 2x512 sticks. So to upgrade it i had to buy 2 completely new 1 gig sticks and lose the 2 512 sticks.

back in the day, i bought a surfboard from cc for $0 (they had a set of rebates that only required a photocopy of the UPC that also overlapped by one day) and uncapped it...used it for nearly 2 years before i dropped twci haven't kept up, so that may not even be relevant these days

yeah wow VGA is what my next phone's resolution is going to be. That or WVGA.
6/15/2008 11:17:41 PM
vga cables are analog and capable of extremely high resolutions
6/16/2008 9:32:18 AM
yeah but if you say "VGA resolution" it usually implies 640 by 480. Plus why would you be using analog on a digital LCD? You can't run the monitor higher than its native resolution anyway so you should be using digital.
