when i took it several years ago, the only reason you HAD to go to lab was to turn in a hard copy of the code.

the assignments were all online and you also submitted an electronic version of the code, but they also wanted a hard copy, so you had to go to turn that in.

i mean, you could also stay if you needed help or something

long. and boring work, but i had awesome TAs. and if you stay the whole time, you can basically get all your coding done. a lot of people just peaced out after they signed in and dropped off the gradesheet.

Mine was a few years ago from 7-10 I think, and the TA explained what the lesson was on for 15 minutes and stayed there for any help. Just about about every lab except the last one everyone finished in about an hour or two and could leave after that. The project was the only pain in the ass.

Best thing to do is get a smart friend in there to help you if you get stuck.

i did all the labs for the entire semester in the first session and just showed up each week to turn in the grade sheet, then immediately left.

It entirely depends on your TA. I was pretty laid back when I was a TA and I honestly wouldn't have cared if you came or not, just as long as you got your work turned in. The thing is that lab is the only place that you will actually learn anything, lecture is useless. If you really don't want to go to your "official" lab, I would advise you to go to another TA's lab section to learn the material and do your work and go to your official one to turn it in. I've had plenty of students from other labs come to mine before in the past. I don't teach anymore since I have graduated, but send me a PM if you want and I'll tell you a few of the good TA's that will make sure you learn the material well and will be cool about you attending their lab.
