unless you've disabled it, its on by default.otherwise. Right click network place, click properties. Double click the adapter on which you want to turn on DHCP. Click properties. Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Click obtain ip automatically and obtain dns automatically.

im trying to set up a static ip on my computer again for the RR i just gotwhen i type command and then ipconfig /all i get a different screen from what i used to, and from what the guide im using showsand the ip address doesnt show up

if you're trying to set up a static ip, you want dhcp to be offbut you don't need it to be static for RR, in fact if you're hooked up straight to the modem, it can't beif you've got a router you can set one for whatever network you've set up with the router, but the router itself will get it's ip address via dhcp from the modemwhat you're describing vaguely with the ipconfig screen sounds like your network adapter is either disabled or your cable is not plugged in or defective
