People would think alot harder about getting married, make it a SERIOUS decision if they had to forever. I mean if you really knew and it was illegal to get a divorce and you could go to jail if you cheat on them then if you got married it would be certain.


Families would be closer because the parents were really in love.

Haha this is hilarious. No sane country would EVER make divorce illegal. I mean think about the legal issues by themself. All the tax breaks, and shit you get with a marriage. If two people seperated (which you know they would, even if divorce was illegal) then how would that make sense to continue to tax them as a married couple?

Also the simple fact alone, if your husband beat you, then the government wouldn't not let you get divorced that's silly.

Tell that to the thousands of abused wives who had no idea they would get beat 5-10 years into the marriage after the kids, college payments, losing jobs, etc etc. You can't expect someone to act the exact same after 10 years in a marrigage. I heard about something vaguely similar to the Baptist thing Agony mentioned. I don't know if it's associated with a particular church or state or what, but I do recall hearing a while back about some politician who went through this kind of "extra layer" of marriage that made divorce more difficult.

i disagree, my parents divorced in 6th grade and i'm actually doing very well. the problem isn't parents divorcing, it's families where a kid is born without a parent. ie, ghetto children who are left to be raised by a mother who wasn't fucking smart enough in the first place to not fuck random people in poverty. my biases aside, the problem is children with a single mother in low economics who literally doesn't have the time or energy to give them discipline

I get what your saying. But there is still no absolute way that one can know that the marriage their getting into will last .... till death do you part. No matter how sure you are... how well you know a person...how long you've been together. Situations can change, and people can always change.

You would have more people killing their spouses if they made divorce illegal.
