I live and work in Florida right now as a wildlife biologist and have been looking to come back to NC for a while now. I applied for a job in Southern Pines and was asked to fill out an official application. At first I just sent in my resume and a cover letter. After the application was filled out I recieved an email saying they wanted an interview and were coordinating times within the company to set one up. The HR told me she would respond to me within a day or so. Its been a week now and I am unsure of my standings with the company. Should I call them back and ask again about the interview or wait for them to contact me?Also, it was discussed having flight plans made for me and now I am wondering are they going to hire another person becuase they dont have to fly them there.

Call them, durr.Something along the lines of "I was just following up with you about........" usually works. Most companies are looking to hire people motivated enough to follow up on their application.

Call again dude.

Definitely call again-- you aren't harassing them if you have waited a week. I would have called before now, personally.

hey bo, sounds like this job is better than trappin bears in florida

call them. hr is paid to screen calls. i usually go with something like "just following up on what time i should shedule to come sit and talk about blah blah blah" i tend to treat interviews as i'm doing the company a favor by coming in and talking to them, rather than the other way around.

what about submitting a resume to an open positionis it customary to give a call/email after a week or so, or no?

def call as a followuphow in the world did you manage to wait a week? I would've been driven nuts by day 3

well for this particular company, they seem to keep their HR contact info under wraps save for a lame general online contact form with a selection for "career information"...no email or phone number availableand FAQ stuff like:Is there someone I can talk to regarding this position? All information relevant to the position is in the job descriptions. If you have other questions, you will have an opportunity to obtain more information at the time of the interviewgood to know for other compaines, though

For a summer job interview with a company who does wildlife consulting what would be approriate attire? They are flying me up from FL to NC for the interview. I dont know if I should wear a jacket or not.

Yes, you should wear a jacket. It shows a level of professionalism, and that you're serious about wanting this job. The position is irrelavent. [Edited on September 2, 2007 at 11:22 AM. Reason : ]

wear what Steve Irwin did.......

Get dressed up; even if you'll never have to for the job, it shows them the interview means something to you.As far as HR goes, call and follow up as often as you please. My experience with HR is that they are soulless assclowns who need prodding to ever think about doing their jobs. After calling a couple times, they might actually get in touch with you to let you know something one way or the other just so you will leave them alone so they can get back to doing nothing and/or torturing kittens.

call every 2-3 days til you get an answer that is a definite yes or noif you really want the job it'll be worth it[Edited on September 3, 2007 at 11:28 PM. Reason : and no, they won't think you're psycho and harrassing them...it's their job to be harrassed]

You should make sure to wear a suit, I mean if you end up going on a nature hike, and you destroy a $30 pair of shoes and have to pay 2 bucks to get youre suit dry cleaned, but you get the job its prob worth it

they are flying me up tomorrow...i made a compromise on what to wear. i decided i would wear a blue sports coat with khaki pants. i figure it will look nice but also be more approriate than a black suit or just a shirt and tie.
