how do I configure the QoS / CoS on this ? it's going to be a point to point 1GB fiber connection from Verizon. No MPLS involved. The phones are going to be Nortel IP phones talking back to a Nortel PBX.Nortel for Voice and Cisco for Data.
8/13/2007 6:39:25 PM
you have no idea what you're doing, do you
8/13/2007 7:45:44 PM
I just need the QoS configs. Stop being a dickface.
8/13/2007 8:04:59 PM
Give up on life, BYou suck at it, G
8/13/2007 8:28:11 PM
esparagus. go fuck yourself.
8/13/2007 8:29:30 PM
SeriouslyWhat kind of a low life lets you handle tech stuff?Choke on failure, G
8/13/2007 8:31:59 PM
8/13/2007 8:33:40 PM
No, because you haven't shambulated the qos values.
8/13/2007 9:41:00 PM
haha, if you had even a dozen brain cells, you'd have discovered that the 3750 will configure all the QoS you need with one macro.
8/13/2007 10:08:36 PM
what do you mean "one macro". I need to configure the 3750 for Nortel VoIP. do you have any suggestions. that's why i posted the thread. with cisco voip its pretty simple. there is a dscp setting that I'm not sure how to calculate on Nortel.
8/13/2007 10:23:50 PM
DSCP is a value taken from a section of the ip header... ex. Cisco uses "EF" by default for VOIP ... My guess is that Nortel does also, although I dont read the documents from subpar vendors.By Macro, Bobby means 1 command that configures that router to do QoS optimally for voice, instead of 30-40 lines of commands like you copied to this thread.RTFM man... it will save you some embarrassment ... (or open a TAC case)
8/13/2007 10:41:05 PM
^^^ I assume he is talking about AutoQos, look it up
8/14/2007 7:42:36 AM
this thread seems to be a complete troll attempt by a competent person. i mean how could someone be put in a job to do something like this, then post 40 lines of code that apparently shows incompetence when one macro will do the job? i am really start to believe that this amsterdam is in fact an alias.
8/14/2007 8:14:12 AM
I disagree I'm aware that one macro works in an all Cisco environment, but not with Nortel equipment.
8/14/2007 8:30:51 AM

MarkingWhen powered-up, Nortel IP Phones contact the Terminal Proxy Server(TPS) that controls them. The TPS then instructs the IP Phones to mark allpackets with a default, yet configurable (through CS 1000 Manager) DSCPand/or 802.1Q/802.1p tag. The tag is also configurable using CS 1000Element Manager. The control packets are marked for each of the following:• Signaling Server• Voice Gateway Media Cards• Media Gateway 1000T (MG 1000T)• Network Routing ServiceConfigure QoS (ip line card on communications server)Configure QoS by enabling 802.1Q and NAT support, configuring DiffServCodePoint (DSCP) settings, and configuring OM QoS thresholds.Procedure 30Enabling 802.1Q and configuring DSCP settings1 Click the QoS tab. See Figure 76.Figure 76New Node – QoS tabConfiguration of IP telephony nodes using OTM 2.2 Page 293 of 770IP Line Description, Installation, and Operation2 802.1Q enables virtual LANs (VLANs) to be defined within a single LAN.This improves bandwidth management and limits the impact of broadcastand multicast messages.Configure the 802.1Q settings as follows:a. Enable 802.1Q support: Select the check box to enable 802.1Qsupport. By default, 802.1Q support is disabled.b. Priority Bits value (802.1p): The priority field is a 3-bit value, with adefault value of 6. The range is 0 – 7. A value of 6 is recommendedby Nortel Networks. The p bits within the 802.1Q standard enablespacket prioritization at Layer 2, improving network throughput forIP Telephony data.Note: These values are applied to all Voice Gateway Media Cards in thenode.3 Under DiffServ Codepoint, modify the DSCP Control and Voice valuesonly as directed by the IP network administrator. The recommended configuration values are:a. Control packets: A value of 40 – Class Selector 5 (CS5). This setsthe priority of the signaling messaging.b. Voice packets: A value of 46 Control DSCP – Expedited Forwarding(EF).The DSCP determines the priorities of the management and voicepackets in the IP Line network. The range for both management andvoice packet DSCP is 0 – 63 inclusive. The DSCP value can be configured, if required, to obtain better QoSover the IP data network (LAN/WAN).The value entered depends on the policy in the customer’s datanetwork.Note: Do not change DSCP from the default values unless instructed.4 Click Apply and then click OK.Note: As described on the QoS tab, NAT and QoS parameters are nolonger configured here. Therefore, those areas are grayed out.I have access to all the nortel manuals so I used the RTFM method and found this information in about 5 minutes.. When you turn on QOS on Nortels it sets Voice packets (rtp) to DSCP 46(EF) and control packets to DSCP 40 (CS5).that well be $100, no checks please

csdozier. thank you. you are one of the first posters in Tech Talk that's not a dickbag. so what if I said convert when I meant map. the whole point in making this thread is I'm not a QoS expert I was just looking for some guidance. Again CSDOZIER thanks for not being a snob and a dickbag.God Bless You, B.

you're so wrong, man. but thanks for being a dickbag about this whole thing cause I did in fact learn some things from this thread. and I'll apply it when I draft my QoS assessment document tonight.
8/14/2007 4:18:06 PM
haha lets all gang up on amsterdamseriously, not everyone can focus 100% of their attention on one single technologybut maybe tech support > wolfweb?hey, id prob ask here too
8/14/2007 4:28:25 PM
Don't feel bad dude, I think you raised a valid question, and there's some decent info in this thread.

^^ ... just a half sarcastic comment ... to say that I cant even read all the cisco stuff im supposed to know, let alone start reading other vendors crap for the same technologies.
