my parents think they have a peeping tom. they want to set up a camera (wireless) that they can check and record, preferably motion sensing. anybody have any specific suggestions on a camera to buy? it needs to be relatively easy-intermediate setup (something i can do w/o spending all day working at it).

(the old topic was dead)

someone's stealing peeks of your mom's snatch?

you need a bat, not a webcam.

they're living in a rental house right now (while they build a new house) and they keep finding the gate on the far side of the yard open and the bushes/grass near the windows around the master bedroom/bathroom trampled. they need to find out when the person is showing up before they go charging out w/ a bat.

^^can you link to a specific product?

x10 has a wide variety of security cams you can check out.

My mom has one setup on her garage overlooking the driveway. It has motion detection and she can turn to a certain channel on her TV to check out whats going on. I also believe they have capability to record to VCR.

read the website... they can be connected to the PC as well.. You can set it up so you can watch the cam over the net also.

go to bass pro shops or somewhere and buy one of the motion sensing cameras that is meant to photograph dear/turkey/etc. they are reasonably priced and there will be no wireless to deal with or anything to really set up. some even take videos now.
here are a few from bass pro

^^

I hadn't heard any of what's mentioned on the wiki page, maybe it's a joke or something...

I was just on http://www.x10.com and it loads fine. Granted it has about 10 million ads and it looks like a 10 year old on crack designed the page but I do know their products work.. Or at least they use to.

I have a ghetto setup doing motion detection for me.

Setup:
- Logitech USB Webcam
- Dorgem (Free software)
- Set to motion activated capture (Captures only during the day when I'm at work and away from home).

Works good. I caught a group neighborhood kids walking through backyard once. Also caught pictures of birds and random pictures when clouds blocked out the sun. That's about it. Only drawback in resolution of the webcam is low, so you can't make out details on faces unless they are up close to the camera. Also, after a few months my camera died. I guess consumer webcams aren't designed to be turned on that long.

My parents bought some X10 cams for home security a few years ago and THE IMAGE QUALITY SUCKED! Seriously, they were worse than a $7 usb webcam.

I'm thinking that at this point they need to consider investing in a large dog and a pump-action shotgun, and to put one of those fun "tresspassers will be shot" signs up on that fence.

Have they notified the police? The evidence of the grass and the repeated gate opening is enough to report it.

Also, consider this: Have them put together a sign that says "WE ARE WATCHING YOU" Put the sign up in that window the perv always uses, making sure to have the sign block out the entire window. If that doesn't get the point across, and the gate continues to be opened, you could pursue the more expensive wireless webcam route.

its not hard to look them up on thier website so stop being lazy

i hate it when people cant or wont do their own fucking research and depend on message posters to do it for them

even if i had looked them up on walmart's page first, i wouldn't invest much in the electronics sold by walmart and don't have access to any halfway trustworthy customer reviews (none on the site for those products).

i hate to have to spell this out for you, but i am looking for a specific wireless security camera that you or someone you know has bought and used successfully that is computer based and does not require a television.
---------
they had my brother's dogs for a week or so (newfoundland mix - 85lbs and golden retriever mix - 68lbs), but the newf is deathly afraid of new people and hides quietly while the golden loves people but will bark at first at strangers. they didn't leave them outside though.

i offered to loan them my border collie mix (50lbs), mia. she's vicious, territorial, hates strangers esp men, and will bite. they're thinking about it. lol

Dont call the police yet...get this person on tape so you can make a case to have them arrested or something.

Chances are, it's a neighbor, and if he sees cops come out to your house to take a report, that may scare him off and he'll be peeping a new neighbor.
