from State get on wade ave westbound at the 440 exit or blue ridge rd, exit onto edwards mill rd, take a right on it, should be the first left thats a gravel rd going towards the woodline behind the pastures on your left. Literally across the highway from the RBC center. It has a hiking/horse? trail the connects up into umstead park.google it for more details

i don't know if it's technically part of the same system, but I've always thought of it as an extension of Umstead. You can park at Schenk, go through the trails there, then go up the greenway beside Reedy Creek to enter Umstead. here's a google maps with Schenk in blue and Umstead in greenhttp://tinyurl.com/2o3c2r

Schenck is owned by NCSU and is a research forest for the Natural Resources Dept.

^^^no, it is owned by NC State University. it is an educational forest (they take the forestry students there) and they're nice enough to share it w/ the public. Umstead is just a state park.yeah, what ^ said[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 8:48 AM. Reason : ]

They also use it for Soil Science. They have a few pits dug out there to show different types of soils. Its right across from the old Beef unit.
